The musical style seems to me clearly classical (about 1750-1780). And what could be the form of this work? opera ouverture, symphony, concerto, sinfonia concertante, senerata?

I agree. While there's a certain Baroque feeling, the form looks definetily classical. It's probably very early classical or very late Baroque.
I've only listened to it once (yesterday), but I thought it sounded like a concerto for a "plucked string" instrument. Lute or mandolin maybe? I remember hearing an orchestral opening, ending with a characteristic trill, before the solo instrument began its part.

Could someone move this thread to its proper place. I don't think it is the good section of the forum. Thanks.

bump... still no luck? :(
My turn... I was in university after hours the other day and I heard a piece of music in the main hall (some of the girls were rehersing or whatever) and it sounded very Ravel/ Satie-like. It was being played on a piano, a flute (the main part) and a double bass pizzicato. I would give more info but that's the best i can describe it.
As it happens, I recorded it as a note on my phone:

An easy one to identify!
I'm pretty sure this will be very easy. Sure sounds familiar to me! ... but it's tagged in my collection with all "unknowns"! Identification appreciated! Thanks, Jim

Still, nobody can find it. I hate when I can't identify a piece of music.

At some points it appears to be Classical, and at others, Romantic. Schubert never wrote a violin concerto, and this doesn't sound like Mendelssohn, either. Maybe late-Haydn?

Interesting. While there are some bits of classical sound (the small clarinet phrases reminded me of the clarinet concerto), this is too loose to be Haydn. It has to be early romantic. I don't think it would be Mendelssohn, like opus said. I've never heard Schumann's violin concerto but... no.
Meh, I'm not good at recognising slow movements.

But he composed a Rondó for violin and orchestra. I think it was recorded by Jean-Jacques Kantorow once.

Hey, that's the second movement of Wieniawski's second violin concerto.
One of the most famous works in the repertoire, and certainly one of the most beautiful too.
Work's full tag would be:
Henryk Wieniawski: Concerto for violin and orchestra Nº 2 in d minor (Op.22). What you have there is the second movement, Romance - Andante non troppo.
According to Wikipedia, it was dedicated to some violinist, believed here to be a second-rate composer.
Check a Heifetz recording of the work. It exists also in many violin/piano versions, of which my favorite is Corey Cerovsek. (Or was sometime ago, I haven't listened it in a while...)

Yes, I know - one of my favourites. But it's a 10-minute rondo.

Thanks for identifying it. I have been in a violin concerti-craze of late. That piece sounds beautiful.
