Question Need help identifying a song.

I love this song but I don't know what it's called or who it's by, and so I joined TC because I thought you guys might be able to help.

It's in this video, from 1:23 to 1:57 and around 2:20 to 2:47.

I've heard this song so many times -- several of my old ballet teachers used it in class. It was always stuck in my head for days after hearing it, but I never had a chance to ask what it was called. Then, while watching Princess Tutu (a surprisingly delightful anime that incorporates a lot of ballet) today, I heard it again and decided that I really needed to find out who created it.

Anyway, if it helps, the music of that episode is mostly from Songs without Words by Felix Mendelssohn, so it might be part of an opus from the aforementioned.

And I really don't know much about classical music other than that I love to listen to it, so I apologize in advance for anything incorrect that I have written or may write. I just want to find out what the song is called and who wrote it!

Thanks.

EDIT: Also, I'm terribly sorry if this isn't the right place to post this thread. I was a bit uncertain as to where this would fit best.

That's from Sergei Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet, the "Dance Of The Knights", Act 1, second scene.

At 3:47 you hear Maurice Ravel's Pavane pour une infante defunte.

The orchestral work at 5:28 is Antonin Dvorak's Ninth symphony.

Thank you so much! Now I can finally purchase the music.

Also, I'm sorry for posting in the wrong area; I should have looked around the forums more to find the right place before posting. I was just so eager to find out more about that song.

You're welcome. It's a fun and fairly popular piece of classical music. It tells the story of the unsuccessful attempt to invade Moscow by Napoleon's army. There are two versions: one without choruses (the original), and the one with choruses (first added in a recording in the 60's.)

Default What Classical Piece is this from the game Age of empires 3 (mp3 included)?

Hi after I got such a quick reply from opus67 regarding my previous enquiry regards Risk I game music, I thought I'd ask one more...

Does anyone know who composed the Main Title music for Age Of Empires (part 3 in particular). Mp3 is included. Is this a known classical piece or does some one have a recording of the full version?

Hi Nik. I'm clueless this time. It sounds like a work of a more recent origin, probably composed solely for the game, but I could be wrong. Anyway, here's a thread that was created just for posting pieces/clips that need identification - it helps keep all such posts in one place, instead of many smaller threads in many places. So, henceforth, please consider posting such questions in that thread.
