Could someone identify this for me:

I heard this played live by some army band at a festival in Cracow. I remember hearing the part at 0:38 before and it's pretty characteristic.

It sounds like Katchatchurian or Kabalevsky. I know they have both written for military band and had other works of theirs arranged for this kind of ensemble. It sounds like the microphone is in the trouser pocket of the snare drum player! Other than that I can't help, sorry.

Default Help identifying a collection of pieces
I have samples of about 12 classical pieces here of which I don't know the names. Anyone who can identify them will be greatly appreciated.

Hi, Pletnek.

Out of the 12, I was able to identify 4.

1. Minuet for String Quintet Op.13 No.5, Luigi Boccherini
2. This is a violin concerto from the Classical period... probably one of Mozart's; but I'm not certain.
4. Anitra's Dance, from Peer Gynt suite No.1; Edvard Grieg
6. Minuet in G major, Ludwig van Beethoven
9.Liebesfreud, Fritz Kreisler

And, BTW, there is a thread specifically for identifying classical works the link to which you can find in my signature. Please post the files/links there in future.

8. I know the piece, just don't remember the name
12. Wieniawski: Scherzo-Waltz (or something similar).

No. 2 Is Beethoven Romance No 2 for violin. http://youtube.com/watch?v=64KW04601ts&feature=related

No 8 is certainly not Haydn. However, No 10 is a serenade once attributed to Hayden, but now considered to be by a contemporary of his. The current theory is that it is by Hoffstetter. See this http://www.answers.com/topic/string-...=entertainment

Default intro to Muse song "New Born" a ripoff?

Release: 2001 (or around there)

You can find a preview of the track at amazon.

I was listening to my local classical station and heard a piano piece that sounded almost note for note the same but much longer as the song above. At first I thought I might have confused it with Beethoven's Presto Agitato but after checking again its not close at all. I can't guess at the period it might be from and I cant find anyone else talking about it. All the sites have it as the Muse player writing it. Has anyone heard anything similar to it before?

I can attach a MP3 if needed.

Hi everyone
Several years ago I recorded this 5 minutes piece over the radio; it was some kind of christmas music obviously for solo voice, choir and some strings in the slavic or balkanic taste (i remember Zagreb and Theresa as words associated with it): that is all I know! Clues:

- soprano, choir and orchestra, but could be from an opera
- written any time from 1850 to now
- the composer’s tonal and likes interrupted cadences. He’s studied Bach chorales
- not slushy enough to be Mahler
- could be a Russian patriot from WW2 - a tune which Stalin could hum. Surely not Prokofiev or Shostachovich?
- what’s with those sudden jaunty changes of mood? Sounds like opera scoring
- what's the language? I can’t make it out. Sounds German, a Slavic language, even Yiddish.
