Is it "many" people who have been banned or just one with different usernames? From what I understand the ideas and "proof" of these assertions about Mozart's work usually only come from one or two sources.

Aigen.

I think that nobody can be sure of that.
I think also that, perhaps, many people are interested in the topic, but don’t reply anything for fear of being insulted.

Goldenbow, welcome to the TC!

There were more than the one individual with multiple user names which were "banned".

As for the individual, he/she has been banished from several other classical music forums, from my understanding.

Here at Talk Classical, the individual was given more than a fair amount of latitude in developing his/her discussions.

Discussion on Mozart or any other composer is encouraged. However, if one is trying to tarnish the reputation of one of the most important figures in Western Music history, they better darn have concrete backup and references to support their claims. I think that's only fair, regardless of whether you're a fan of Mozart or not, or any other composer for that matter.

Golden Bow,

If there's something you wanted to discuss about pieces by others attributed to Mozart, that should be a fine topic. After all, there are almost certainly pieces remaining in the Koechel catalog which are works by other composers.

The problem which crept up earlier is that certain individual"(s)", now banned, tended to make very unorthodox claims and state them very clearly as fact, without offering a full proof. The claims were that Mozart consciously stole and faked pieces by other composers, and passed them off as his own. I think that a big part of the issue was the confident and unequivocal tone with which these assertions were presented -- as much as it was the actual content of the discussion. Anyway, emotions got charged, and the discussion quickly moved away from Mozart's music and towards people insulting each others' posts.

In any case, this seems to be quite different from what I think you are asking about -- works which we have come to know as Mozart, even though they weren't acutally composed by him. In some cases, the mistakes leading to these conclusions were made after by publishers after he died, in which case Mozart himself obviously had nothing to do with it.

Welcome to the forum

How did I find this forum?

I was listening to some Scriabin whilst chatting on a favorite motorsport forum, and thought to myself, now I wonder if there is such a thing as a classical music forum.

I Googled "CLASSICAL MUSIC FORUMS" and this was the first one that came up.

Simple as that.

I also googled classical music forum. I wanted to chat about classical music.

Reasons to join:

I looked at the number of the posts. I wanted to join a large forum.

I also liked the diversity of the topics that were posted. Although I used to play the piano, I no longer play any instrument. So I thought it nice that people here seemed to be a good mixture of classical-music fans and musicians.

I also thought that people here seemed to enjoy intelligent discussions with a lot of humor and without being aggressive.

I also had an impression that people here seemed to be nice and calm. I liked the thread, "How is your weather?" in the member chat forum. I wouldn't find that kind of thread in other forums.

Beethoven sucks. Mozart was a faker. Bruckner is for losers.

Bring it on!

Beethoven mostly sucks though some are gems of music. Mozart is god. Bruckner has less moments than Wagner but makes up for it somehow.

Take it bitch.

Beethoven wrote music for us to enjoy and if you are slightly above average intelligence or more you will appreciate it, Bruckner made Mountains out of Molehills [but what Mountains] as for Mozart well it makes nice elevator music!

Much of Mozart's music is an elevator to Heaven. (No, it won't kill you. )
