In my short time here, I too have noticed Peeyaj's love for Schubert. And that is cool-there is much to love there. And as a rule, it's cool to love stuff!

Yes, that seems to be the popular belief.

Schubert is a composer I have always respected and admired yet I've still not gotten into knowing and memorizing his works which is really strange because I have always turned to get a second listen of this beautiful piano music playing and when I go see who it is,...it is Schubert. Thanks to you folks I think this year I shall finally immerse myself into his beautiful works.
I love Schubert even MORE!!
Thanks, peeyaj, for "bumping" this. What an enjoyable article. I raise only one objection: the string quintet appears twice on Topaz's list of favorite works (#10, #19), as doe sthe Piano Sonata #20 in A (#14, #29), while the sublime String Quartet #15 in G nowhere!![]()

Happy 184th Death Anniversary, Franz!!!!
Schubert manages that most supreme of feats, to be melancholy without being maudlin, his pain is not a mockery of pain but truly heartfelt, and he manages to pass that though with all of its complexities in his music.
This thread is amazing, so much good info. I am a little obsessed with Schubert this week, I can't stop to listen his symphonies. Next week I intend to dig his lieders. Thank you very much for the list!
