Hello. Interesting questions.

I studied Indian Classical Music briefly, and from what I understand learning starts with a guru. I'm not sure learning any type of music can "be made simple". I believe you need to study and practice to become accomplished, and that is rarely simple.

Are you suggesting a new method of learning Indian Classical music other than the traditional one-on-one teacher-student relationship?

Default 'riyaz' Software - Learn & Practice Yourself!

Hi,

i do agree, but now a days,it is very difficult to decide & get good 'GURU'.
Till then one has to search & depend upon the available sources which may or may not be satisfactory.
2nd important factor is'TIME'.
Somehow,'NO'body spares sufficient time for each other as is expected in'GURU-SHISHYA TRADITIONAL PURAMPARA',may be either 'GURU' or 'STUDENT', for any reason.
i thought why not to ask 'COMPUTER' to work like a 'GURU'.& then it went on 'SHAPING'
the'RIYAZ SOFTWARE'.
I PUT THE COMPUTER IN PLACE OF 'GURU' & IMAGINED HOW IT CAN TEACH ME.
i planned , programmed ,& tried accordingly.
It worked .
now 24 hrs my 'PC/LAPTOP' & so my 'GURU-RIYAZ' is with me.
Whenever & wherever i find time,i can practice.
i.e. learn yourself! practice yourself !
How do u find this 'NEW'method of 'TEACHING'?
Ofcourse this has 'LIMITATIONS' no doubt.& can not replace ur teacher 100%
But it is 2nd 'THE BEST' in absence of him/her
Thanks a lot!
bvc

I don't see how a computer can act as a teacher. A computer has no performance experience, nor any musicality. I think the best a computer can do is remind you when to practice.

Gee, I can't see where this is going. . . perhaps a shameless promotion for your software? It wasn't hard to find your website selling your software, but I won't link to it or mention it by name because that would simply accomplish your goal.

I don't see how. He is just looking for opinion. If he were indeed trying to promote his software, I'm sure a link to the software site would have been mentioned once, at least.

Perhaps I am wrong, and if so, I apologize.

hello!
sorry for being late here.
GURUR BRAMHA GURUR VISHNU GURUR DEVO MAHESHWARA.
'GURUJEE' is ultimate
He shows path,he guides but walking act is to be done by student.'riyaz'software assists this walking.
Please note that this talk here is restricted to the beginners .
two important keys are there.
one-to listen ICM as much as possible.
second- to practise (riyaz) as much as possible.
'GURU' teaches only in class & is never with at practise.
for 'listening purpose' lots of variety material is widely available in the form of cds ,dvds, & audio cassettes.
for practise purpose, only writing material seems to be the way.& just by reading ,one can not practise where actual practcal demonstration is essentially required.is'nt it?
it is very difficult then in abscense of 'guru' to practise in proper scale.& in a proper way.
In the learning process of 'ICM',there is a definate order of teaching-
first- get introduced to 'BASIC SWARS',thair types & varietis,
second- practcal exersizes of different combinations of these swars called as 'ALANKARS'
third- introduction to rag, concept, rules & so on
fourth- few simple rag-sargamgeet,laxangeet, small bandish
fifth- few basic common taals
sixth- bada khayal,dhrupad, dhamar
& then so many steps ahead.
the above sequence may vary to a little, but otherwise one has to go thru all, anyhow.
knowing all these facts, i hereby would like to draw attention towards that ,now such type of practical demo. is quite possible with the help of upcoming technology.

Now it is time to explain what i deed.
i designed a interactive programme called as 'RIYAZ SARGAM' in which 20 different PRACTCAL exercises of SWAR in various options like-'swar', 'aakar','harmonium','tanpura'are made available.I recorded all this from renouned artists and in those scales which i wanted.
I have a 'GURUJEE'
I, now practice on this pro., whenever i find time, that too, in my own scale, comfortably.
I go to my gurujee to show my performance who then guides to improve mistakes.
when my gurujee is satisfied, i will go to next step, which also already has been programmed.
All i this is as a experiment and i find it to be very useful.
As i say that i have already learned,i have also tried to solve the biggest problem or rather headache to avail accompanists for daily practise.
I experimented & designed interactive device in which i can get tanpura & tabla easily.
Now i can practice in my desired swar of tanpura & desired tempo of desired taal,to unlimited extent. This is the way i used 'computer ' as a 2nd the best to my 'GURU' .
Coming to an END,my humble request is to those ,who are renouned learned & teaching experts should work on this line & create such type of 'EDUCATIONAL PRACTICAL 'material.
It is todays'NEED' indeed.
Thank u!
RIYAZMUSIC,INDIA
