Not listened myself but the BBC recently picked it out as their best version in Building A Library... Up against all the other versions, including Solti, Bohm, Furtwangler, Pappano etc

I have determined long ago that I have more Cds in all genres than I could possibly ever listen to in depth in this lifetime, so will only buy now if real gem surfaces.

Someday they will put all music ever recorded into a low price high quality streaming service
and I will ponder what to do with all these expensive silver discs I own
i'll tell you what to buy.

don't be down. your cds are a blessing. keep choogling and enjoying with me. and us.

    Only £11.99?
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wagner-Ring-...6327423&sr=1-7

There seems to be no detail for this product. Which Furtwangler? Has anyone bought this?

EDIT : Oh wait, I could make out the low-quality backside cover. 1953 with Ferdinand Frantz as Wotan. Ludwig Suthaus as Siegfried. Martha Modl as Brunnhilde and Wolfgang Windgassen as Loge. Same recording with the 1953 EMI? Does anyone recommend this?

well folks, i have 4 Meisters now. Solti-both, Jochum and Barenboim.

    so far it's 1. Jochum 2. Solti 1 3. Barenboim 4. Solti 2

it's real close though. Solti 2 could be 1 if not for thinly recorded Van Dam's Sachs. Very irritating.

2 to go still, Kuby and Sawally.

    DA, come back.....................

If you want a Meistersinger with modern sound and decent singing then this worth a go. I just listened to it this week and thought it was pretty good and not many of the singers are big names.

It's mono of course and it is live and therefore has stage noise but I think it is very serviceable and worth a punt for a small amount of money. Check out the other Amazon reviews.Schwarzkopf is possibly the best Eva I have heard and Karajan is bit more full throttle than he was later in life.

    20d was a steal.

Solti Dutchman fantastic, sounds phenomenal. love the cast.

Boulez Parsifal, great singing, recording, last 2 acts complete on discs 2,3. love that.

    Solti Tannhauser, WOW.

Many people like Peter Seiffert (Barenboim Meister) as great modern Wagner voice

If I would get another Meister I need one with Elisabeth Grummer.....
