I have a question here.. The forums that I have been member had this feature and I think it will be a great addition to the board.

Is it possible to implement a chatbox system in TC, where TC members can talk to each others without posting in the forum?

Is it possible to implement a chatbox system in TC, where TC members can talk to each others without posting in the forum?

My first flippant thought is this concept would give the industrious moderators additional venues to apply our industriousness, perhaps transcending our own abilities to stay on top of such things. In truth, however, the issue's been addressed before, and I haven't seen anything that would make us reconsider the answer that came from higher up on the command chain, seen here, and summarized as follows:

It's not a matter of having valid excuses for not setting this up ... but there are concerns that it could detract from the discussions within the forum itself.

A second point is that any chat environment directly related to this forum IS going to require full time moderation to protect our reputation. Although the forum staff are very dedicated people, we are all volunteers - and we, like all members here, have our own families and private lives apart from the forum.

Thirdly, the site owner, Frederik Magle, would need to 'buy into' this concept. After all, he is footing the entire costs of keeping this forum, as well as our sister forum, MIMF, going year after year. The server lease, the licensing of the domains, the licensing costs of vBulletin, etc.

Okay, the chat application is free, but there are still costs of implementing it to be compatible with vBulletin and the forum software applications, and when adding more programs to our servers, it's going to increase the costs for the site owner as well.

There is a site called tinychat, that works for such purposes. It would be very easy.

I already know two members from this site personally.

If we would want to do it, it would have to be outside TalkClassical, like what Clavichorder said. I've talked to Clavichorder with Tinychat before.

Yea, i am up to it. We could have a Big TC TC chat. We just need a time.

I have used TC [Ed. Tiny Chat] before as well but i got banned because i rambled about Beethoven and his music, the mods in the room wanted just talk about Post rock and stoner bands and they didn't allow freedom of speech.

You don't have to use camera in tiny chat even if you have one, its optional.

For a music community something like http://www.mumuplayer.com/ might be better than tinychat as it is a live listening room for up to 5 people where you can upload tracks into a playlist for all to hear.
