    Default Hiiii from Sydney!

Hi my name's Sil. A 22 year old from Sydney, Australia.
I am so glad I've found this forum (a really active one too!) about classical music. Actually I'm surprised I'd never tried finding one before.... Google brought me here after I typed 'the best version of Beethoven symphonies' after a debate with a friend. Then I got sidetracked and found "Compilation of the TC Top recommended lists". Now I'm listening all the music on the list, hahaha.

I'm a recent graduate from uni and have a bachelor's degree in music performance. My major instrument is piano.
Now I'm taking a year off just travelling and working casually, mainly teaching piano.
I was in Europe for about 2 months backpacking and couchsurfing and doing nerdy stuff like stalking after famous composers at their birth houses and graveyards.

My favourite composers are quite pianistic. Beethoven is my love of life. I also love Chopin, Grieg, Ravel and Rachmaninoff. And yes many others. The list can go on.

Oh, I am trying to get to know Mahler better after I watched Ashkenazy conducting Mahler 9 at Sydney Opera House. I LOVE MR ASHKENAZY. <3

The last concert I watched is David Helfgott performing Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No.3 last Thursday. It was mind-blowing. I am currently listening to Rach 3 over and over again to feel the awe again. (Well, this time it is the recording by Horowitz)

I guess that sums up my musical background. I'm looking forward to meet new music lovers here and share music together.
    Bye for now!

Welcome to TC! HarpsichordConcerto and Sid James are also living in Sydney. I think Sydney kinda sucks (Melbourne is so much better) and the opera house is horrible. Do you like Ligeti?

Welcome to the forum! I too love the piano as a musical instrument, though unlike yourself I have no other musical ability other than the ability to thoroughly enjoy it! I've just recently begun to explore Beethoven more seriously, currently enjoying the Appassionata sonata and the 4th piano concerto. I also have recently acquired an album of Ravel's piano works and they are wonderful

    That is an interesting duo.

Glad you are here; maybe you can get @Sid straightened out. @COAG, that would be asking too much.

It's the inside of the Opera House that's a shambles. The outside is magnificent.

Welcome to the forum. I'm starting to dig deep into the Romantic Era though Baroque is my first love. Hope to see you around.

Oh I love Melbourne! I was actually there a month ago. Might move there next year to enjoy their coffee and little lanes and alleys. That's how much I loved it.
The Opera House can be horrible if you are close. But if you look at it from a distance with the bridge and the harbour, it can be beautiful. The night view is just fantastic.

To be honest, I am not very familiar with Ligeti. I had an assignment to compose 24-bar piano piece (an etude) in the style of Ligeti a few years ago and I nearly cried doing it. That's how little I know :S

YES! ('one' of the greatest) What is your opinion?
