Default New Member Clovis, Hello Everyone!

I was a memeber of this site several years ago. I live in Texas. I'm in my early thirties. I've been a fan of classical since my teens.

My favorite period is the turn of the century Vienna, in particular Mahler. Also very interested in the counterpunctal works of The Renaissance and the polyphony of J. S. Bach.

Also love Jazz and Folk music.

I look forward to meeting friends and learning a thing or two.

Welcome back! I'm sure there are many new faces here, but we all still love the same thing.

How about the contrapuntal works of New Complexity and the polyphony of György Ligeti?
It's the greed of huge companies and huge organizations which control life in a kind of a brutal way ... It's gotten worse and worse, somehow, because physical science has given us more and more terrible deadly weapons, and the human spirit has been destroyed in so many cases, so what's the use of having the most powerful country in the world if we have killed the soul.

You're a Texan in your thirties, it's probably too late for you to learn anything.

    [This is a test.]

On a slightly more serious note, welcome back to TC, @Clovis. The terrain has changed some here recently (more whippersnappers), but probably just as many opinionated, wiseass Yankees.

Experience teaches you to recognize a mistake when you've made it again.

Haven't heard much Ligeti outside The Shining.

I'm only familiar enough with Schnittke and Glass. I own and enjoy Stockhausen's Michaels Reise for solo trumpet.

Thanks to all those who have welcomed me.

Hello clovis and welcome (back) to the forum.

Ignore COAG - you should really get into opera.

    Thanks all!

I do like opera, own dvds of Wozzeck and LuLu by Kultur classics, both biggy performances on dvd format.

    Love Mozart's operas also.

I like chamber music, don't listen to enough of it though.

I love the Dvorak string quintet from the United States years, the eerie sounding one.

Schubert's Death and the Maiden of course

Schnittke 3rd and 4th string quartets performed by Kronos

    Mozart's late clarinet quintet

    Mahler's piano quartet

    Ravel's string quartet

The Mozart opera I listen to most now is Die Zauberflote, a couple years ago it would've probably been Le nozze di Figaro.

I like piano music also, one of my favorites is Liszt - La lugubre gondola

Also enjoy the Bach's keyboard works like WTF bkI - bkII and Goldberg Variations.
