Default Please help me identify this lovely piece of music ...

I've been a lover of classical music for quite some time now, but I'm hardly an expert. There's a piece of music that's played in a scene from obscure 80s film that I'm dying to know what it is. Herre's a link to the scene:

Who is the composer and what piece of music is this? I think it might be Mozart, but I'm not sure. If anyone can help me, I'd be extremely grateful.

    Thanks!

There is another section where we put these threads, aptly called "Identifying Music," so as not to clutter up the Discussion Forum section. I hope you don't mind me moving this thread, it won't be ignored.

My guess is a Haydn String Quartet, but see what others have to say.

On IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085706/fullcredits#cast) I found this:

    Music Department
Thomas S. Drescher .... music editor (as Thomas Drescher)
Lisa Gutknecht .... musician: Mozart Trio
    Allan Mirchin .... music engineer
Seymour Red Press .... orchestra contractor
Kathleen P. Reilly .... musician: Mozart Trio
Leslie Scott .... musician: clarinet soloist
Karen I. Stern .... assistant music editor
    Jonathan Tunick .... conductor
Kris Wigness .... musician: Mozart Trio
The string trio is a very rare genre, I googled "mozart string trio" and thought it might be the K. 563 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trio_fo...Cello_(Mozart)), unfortunately, a quick YouTube scan suggests it's probably something else (but I've listened only to the first bars of each movement).

Thanks for the heads up. I actually went the same route as you and checked the credits for the movie at IMDB. Also with the possibility of being that K. 563, but I too, came to a dead end.

There's no reason to be sorry that this music fragment led you to Mozart's K563: it's a hauntingly beautiful work, especially the second movement http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4fIsOUw41c. So, congratulations! You found something far superior to what you were looking for.
