Default A New One Writes

Hello, All

It was a visit to St. John's, Smith Square last night to hear the Silesian String Quartet play Panufnik, Szymanowski and Schubert (beautifully) that prompted me to look for a forum - and here you are. I'm delighted to be here. Off for a look around now...

No.14, 'Death and the Maiden'. Sublime as ever and a perfect complement to the other composers. They played it beautifully, too

Oh my, that's quite a treat!

I'll get to hear the No. 13 'Rosamunde' live later this year.

Sorry to be late, Imd - been away. I heard Szmanowski's Quartet no 2 opus 56. Here's a bit:

'Karol Szymanowski’s two quartets are among the most exquisite compositions in the genre. This music, which possesses a rare melodic beauty, is the product of a fascination with folksong traditions and Eastern exoticism. His quartets delve into the impressionist world so familiar in the music of Debussy and Ravel.'

(I must say I didn't know he'd only written 2 quartets.)
