Default Favorites of the 20th Century Composers Listed

I know there are more than 15 Composers that have really good music in the 20th Century. I tried to cut it down. Pick your favorites of the ones listed.

Where is the list, my friend?
All composers are equal but some are more equal than others.

Why Boulez is always omitted in these lists?. I think he's a great composer.

I voted like a duck! (I didn't) although I would have voted for Messy, Shosty and Schnittky if I did the votey thing. I see Harpy voted like a true connoisseur of modern music, well done.

There's always one that disrespects the poll and votes for everyone. Ravel winning the poll so far but close. Not sure who I'll vote for. Might surprise some.

I'm more interested in the recent trend to include 19th century composers on 20th century lists.

I've noticed another trend, to include 20th century composers on 19th century lists, but it's not nearly as prevalent.

I interpret it (the first trend) as a way to pad the list with a lot of people who are acceptable to lovers of that century. Leaves less room on the list for the baddies, I guess. I certainly don't think that Mahler's music is any more or less interesting if you call him a twentieth century composer.* (And he certainly is not the kind of century/style straddler that Beethoven was.)

It's not like the list really needs any padding. Sibelius, Vaughan Williams, Rachmaninoff, Bax, Hanson, Shostakovich, Simpson, Higdon. Plenty of people throughout the century who have something to offer aficionadoes of the previous one.

Interesting that no one (so far that I've seen) has put Dvorak on a twentieth century list. Or, even better, Saint-Saens, who lasted even further into the century than either Dvorak or Mahler.

*Well, OK. I guess I do think he is quite a lot less interesting when considered a twentieth century composer.

Gabriel Faure is missed in this list as for me... I adore his "Pavane"...

He wrote beautiful music, I adore his piano works, Masques et Bergamasques and Pelléas et Mélisande suites and many other pieces.

His Requiem is in my top 5 choral works as well.

Not enough votes for Xenakis. And I consider Faure closer to 19th Century.

Is it just me or is TC really repetitive and really random at the same time?

All the same posters having all the same discussions. The polls though are the most interesting thing to me on this site. Where people that never say anything but participate in voting. Thus giving a more definite answer to the poll. Though this one still isn't clear. So close.
