Default Spam Private Messages?

I got a pm from some random person that said nothing but hi and had a link.
I'm afraid to click the link.

Does this happen often?

I haven't received any till now. Hopefully, I won't in future. If you're unsure of the nature of the website being linked to, then don't click it.

I have had quite a few, most annoying. All I do is delete them, because I know friends and family wouldn't just say hi. If there are attachments I would advise not opening them, unless you are very sure they are from someone you trust.

Some attachments have viruses in them.

I assume you mean a PM from someone on this Board delivered in your inbox on this Board. If so, what do you mean by "random person"? Are you saying there is no sender detail? If so, I can't see how that can happen. Admin should be able to sort this out, whatever the precise details of the problem. See below for dealing with dodgy-looking attachments.

If however you are talking about an email (not a PM) that's a totally different issue. I'm always getting spam emails. Just get your browser software to deal with it, by creating message rules not to download from server. Occasionally I might open one or two spam emails. They don't bother me because I have suitable software to deal with anything dodgy (Avast firewall and antivirus, and Windows Defender). Nothing will get through that, provided you don't click on any Exe file they may contain. Even then, Avast will identify a trojan or whatever, and warn you before any harm is done. It's the same with any decent Firewall/AV software.

yeah it was definitely a pm.
It had their profile name but the profile was empty, they hadn't filled it out at all.
Maybe if I give the profile name some admin can sus them out?

Hi Kezza,

I'm glad you brought this up ... It is, most likely, a spammer who joined just for the purposes of promoting whatever it is they are trying to sell or advertise.
Chances are the link is harmless, but one never knows these days ...

We greatly respect your privacy, and you shouldn't have to put up with these morons.
For some odd reason, the spammers never send the staff those messages ... ... .

If you, or anyone else who is getting these, would kindly forward those PM's to me in their entirety ... I'll personally take care of it, and the person who is sending them.
We (the staff) do not have access to PM's being sent from one member to another, so we only find about this sort of thing from you

Thanks again for bringing this to our attention.

I will Forward it to you then. There are things called keyloggers these days the actually logs every key you press while on the computer. Can be used to Steal all kinds of accounts and information that you put in over the internet. That is what I am most worried about.

Thanks for getting on to it so quick too

Dirty Krummhorn ... "Ah-ah, I know what you're thinking. Did he fire six shots or only five? Well to tell you the truth in all this excitement I've kind of lost track myself. But being this is a vbulletin 3.6.4 mod panel - the most powerful mod panel in the world, and would blow your user account clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question, do I feel lucky. Well, do ya punk?"

It would have been better to leave it up to imagination than spell it out...
