Or perhaps not, I have been trying for ages to get the Catherine Malfitano - Tosca on DVD. Finally it shows up in this 3 opera boxset of famous Domingo operas for Puccini, price at Amazon sellers USA $27.50

Don't have those other two opera DVDs so if either one or both turn out to be good I will be happier
I don't have that Tosca, but I have the Fanciulla and Manon Lescaut and both are very good.
Martha doesn't signal when the orchestra comes in, she's just pursing her lips..

Great looking more like a good buy now........

The Malfitano Tosca was shot on location to give it very realistic look and feel, plus who would make more desireable Tosca than Catherine Malfitano, Scarpia is powerless and obsessed with her beauty!
(perhaps a little fill lighting to eliminate some of shadows would be nice here)

Nice low angle shot for Te Deum:

I think the Scarpia is very powerful in this version and she feels a certain reluctant attraction to him. He even plants a good long kiss and you wonder for a second whether she's going to kiss him back, which is the first time I've seen that in Tosca.

That's the Tosca in the settings and at the times of Tosca & I loved it.

I love it when it happens.

I've been patiently awaiting Anna's Salome! I'm confident that one day she'll do it just for fans like me. Tickets might cost $2,000 in the back of the theater, though.

I've seen a Salome live with this soprano who did fulfill your conditions:

Can you tell me more about these used markets?
I may use them both to sell some DVDs I don't care a lot for, and for some cheap good buys. So where do you go to sell and buy?

I don't have the patience to re-sell, even with quick turnaround. I don't even order clothing online because I hate the process if I have to return them by mail! So for me it's Netflix too.

    Sell
Well I am registered seller at Amazon USA with 100% positive feedback so have no trouble selling opera DVDs and CDs for good price used, accurate add description with good packaging and fast shipping keeps customers happy.

Amazon keeps a commission on everything you sell and twice a month transfers balance in your seller account to your bank account. I don't fool with Ebay auctions or international sales......

Helps to slightly offset cost of new acquisitions, for instance I recently mentioned here I purchased the deluxe limited edition Callas studio boxset and sold my standard set used at Amazon, ease the financial pain a bit.....

    Buy
I buy almost all new & used Classical DVDs and CDs at Amazon USA sellers (stores and individuals), best prices and best selection I have found. (blowitoutahere, newbury, importCD, classical superstore etc)

I also buy new from UK vendors Presto and MDT if they have great sale

Amazon IS a great place to buy used CDs. I've purchased over a dozen used albums and I've never had problems with playing them. Only had one error where I received the wrong album, but the seller refunded my money and told me to keep the CD anyway, so that was fine by me. I was able to buy the original one I wanted from another seller the next day.

Yes, I've bought DVDs and CDs from many of the sources you quoted. But I've never thought of becoming a registered seller so that I would rapidly recycle CDs and DVDs for lots of experimentation. Sounds like a great idea because if you sell to a seller they give you 4 or 5 bucks, but if you sell to an individual you can get prices much closer to the new product. But how do you become a registered seller?

Watching this right now and not liking it a lot.
Good singing overall, but stiff acting, static settings (colorful but odd, with odd/silly costumes). It doesn't seem to take off, kind of lukewarm, without emotion. It could be in function of Saint Saens music which is not exactly vanguard. Of course, some beautiful moments, like Mon coeur s'ouvre à ta voix but many parts are boring. I guess it's an opera best enjoyed in highlights.
Anyway maybe there is a better production out there (the Vickers-Davis, or the San Francisco Opera one with Domingo as well) and I'll revisit it later, but I can't say I'm highly impressed with this DVD. It starts with the American national anthem played by the Met orchestra. Well, the third act is supposed to be better and it is only starting now, so maybe I'll have a more favorable final impression, but... I doubt it.

Edit after the 3rd act ballet - the high point of this DVD so far. It was actually beautiful and sensual.
    ---
Oh well, there's a nice tribute to Placido in his 30th anniversary at the Met, and a nice interview with him. I guess it was worth it.

Being very much a Christie fan, I'm potentially very interested in this Fairy Queen, but reviews have been quite polarised; and youtube hasn't resolved my quandary: I'm not at all sure about the apparent muddle of traditional with modern (eg the workmen's overalls). So I'll be very interested to see what you think of this.

You feel hard done by - in the Vespri Siciliani I'm watching now the tenor looks like a hamster with facial hair who ate way too much pasta con le sarde while languishing in his Sicilian prison. Ironically the Evil Baritone, who is supposed to be his long lost dad, is rather dashing and handsome.

I wonder if the people who cast these DVD productions understand that viewers are going to notice these visual paradoxes and be more aware of a singers visual appearance even to the point of choosing a less talented singer who better looks the part they need to play.....

That will put a dent in your visa bill
I also have that Cosi Fan Tutte in my Amazon basket, but not for sale in USA till 9/28/2010
