Default Greetings from a Double Bassist

Hi! I'm a double bassist and (very amateur) composer from Washington state!

I'm probably on the younger side of the age spectrum here (I'm currently 14 years old), but I hope that does not hinder my participation here.

I'm currently working on the first movement of the Bottesini Concerto (No. 2), and I'm playing Also Sprach Zarathustra, Britten's Sinfonia da Requiem, and Tchaikovsky's Capriccio Italien in youth orchestra. I don't have a super large orchestral experience yet, but the largest-scale piece I've performed so far is probably the Rite of Spring.

My favorite composers are Bartók, Ligeti, Bottesini, (Richard) Strauss, and Stravinsky (so far). As I mentioned before, I do compose, however, most of my work is heavily atonal.

I don't know how many bassists there are here, but I'd love to discuss bass repertoire/technique.

I look forward to interesting conversations, and to learning more from all of you!

Wow, welcome to Talk Classical, Protosini. 14! That age is not even counted in some polls I'm in my twenties, and yet some friends ask themselves what am I doing in a forum instead of social networks.

I really prefer tonal to atonal music when it's Classical, but outside of the genre I'm open to current composers in the Electronic field. From the composers you mention, my favourites are Ligeti and Richard Strauss. If you haven't watched or listened to Elektra, give it a go. My favouirte recording is the studio Böhm DG with Inge Borkh and the Staatskapelle Dresden. For Bartók I really like the String Quarters and Bluebeard's Castle, but I'm not so keen on listening to him.

If you want to chat with other players and musicians, Instrument and Technique section is your place. I never go there, I am sick for rating recordings and building a library (versionitis they call it). Have a great time in this forum, and I really like your writing style. Have a nice day.

Have you ever played Schubert's Trout Quintet? I love the sound of the db in that piece!
