    Default Hello from the UK

    Hi

Found this forum completely by accident, but as classical music has become more a part of life the last 8 years or so, i figured it might be interesting to hear peoples views etc.

One or two of the members might know me via a blog i run/ran devoted to the decoding of the various Quadraphonic matrix systems, which is now only devoted to make its members aware of newly released, and reissued quadraphonic material.

Hi from Leeds. Think you will love this site. Learnt so much from it. Dipped into classical music all my life but took it up seriously four years ago, and it just grew from there. Well, looking forward to your posts

Welcome! Good to have you on board. Oxford is a lovely place, haven't been there for a few years though.

    Thanks for the welcome

Well, for the majority of my life i favourite classical composers were pretty much the 'poplar's', Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Ravel etc with a little bit of Copland and Ginestera thrown in, but when i started decoding the quadraphonic albums, more for the blog than myself at first, i found my taste widening.

I've never been a fan of opera but i have found myself enjoying what is called 'operetta, the most recent was when i decoded the quad version of Willi Boskovsky's recording of Lehas 'Paganini' on EMI. For me what makes this is the wonderful use of the quad space, with movement by the singers around the square and the orchestra well recorded (my view of course)equally well spaced.

Perhaps hearing these recordings as they were meant to be heard have helped open my mind to music that wouldn't have normally given a chance, that certainly is the case when it comes to rock/popular/experimental music

    Hi

Just up the M62 (what a nightmare that road is lol)

Classical music covers such a wide range, have been experimenting with what could be called 'ancient' music, some of it is quite wonderful... and the harp...well, what can i say!

    Hi

I agree, miss Oxford dreadfully. Am up in (very) rainy Lancashire and miss the Oxford life very much.
