I can not see how that would work you only have to use google to get answers, how about at what level are you at as a Musician, would past posts be rated if so using what criteria, sorry M I I just can't see that it would do any good at all, IMHO we are fine as we are.

Hmmm...fair enough. I personally don't believe a ranking system is good for a forum, because if we go by amount of posts a member has contributed, then I would be in the superior ranking. I'm on my way to record topping 2,000 posts right now.

This is an interesting topic. Considering a new naming system would be a neat idea. But, there are some good points made in the previous discussion from 2006 concerning a new ranking system. In my opinion, any kind of hierarchical ranking system, whether quantitative or knowledge-based, beyond what TC already has (not including a brief moniker or custom title selected by the member him/herself, as already used by many forums) may lead to more problems than wanted. It could isolate new members (namely those who join to get helpful suggestions and who are trying to learn more) and keep them from contributing to the discussions.

Yes, but it would make the higher posters feel more important and awesome, which is a point to consider too. High posters deserve recognition for having more posts than a newbie!!

I do not need a rank to indicate how important I am [I already know ]
A high post count = superiority??? come on Tap, that must be tongue in cheek

I think I should win a special prize for the most posts. What do you guys think? Like maybe a free CD or something? I've been eyeballing some more American Classics Naxos CDs....

I agree with this & I'd emphasise not only the quantity of posts, but their quality too...

I am not in favour of introducing a more complex ranking system than exists already.

Well I didn't expect to see objections based on the fear that members would actually develop superiority and inferiority complexes, I mean this was only supposed to be a bit of fun, why does it have to be taken so seriously? Perhaps rank (as well as post count) should be removed altogether if that's the way it is - keep it nice and sterile.

Even the idea of it is, so best forget it.
