Default Logging on automatically

Is there a way to select settings so that youre always logged on and that when you visit you dont have to sign in?

Also when i do sign in it redirects me from the welcome page and then im not logged in yet. I have to click on a forum and then it shows that im logged on.

Try not logging off when you're through browsing the site. Clearly, though, you must re-visit on the same computer that you used for the log-in, in order for this to have a chance of working.

Not entirely sure if this is possible. The forum software, after a certain specified elapsed time of inactivity, will automatically log users off. Hey, it even logs me off, so don't feel bad. . I think this is probably done in an effort to conserve server resources. Frederik, since he's the one who set up this forum, would know more about that.

As to the redirect after signing in, I haven't a clue on that. After I log in, the main forum page appears every time. I'll turn in a trouble ticket to Frederik on that and see if he can shed some light on that situation.

Anyone else having this kind or problem?

That's odd. I've never been logged off, even after weeks of inactivity...

When you next log in you should tick the box "Remember me" in the top right of the main page, next to User Name. In the case of Firefox it will then give a pop up at the top of the screen asking if you want to save the password. If you tick that box it should remember you next time you log in. If you want to change/remove the password from Firefox you go to tools/options/security/ remember passwords for sites. I would guess there's a similar facility in IE8, Opera, Safari etc but I much prefer Firefox.

Could be. I have heard of other instances of people using laptops that instead of signing off, they merely close the lid on the laptop basically putting that machine in standby. When they re-open the lid, the system resumes the previous session.

Apparently when the laptop goes to standby, the user is automatically logged out (offline).

As I respond to this post, your username status clearly indicates that you are Offline, as in not logged in.

Hey Chi and others, maybe i should add more detail..

I always check the remember me box and firefox has saved my password, i am just never logged on when i return to the site.

What I mean with redirect thing is that when you log on you get a little box saying "thank you for logging on, it will now redirect you". This is fine and it does redirect me to the main page. Here i see all the subforums listed as usual, but in the little box on the top right which shows my username and unread messages etc.. it still shows i am logged off. After I click into a subforum it will show i am logged on.

Try not logging out when you leave; just close the link and see what happens.

This sounds very strange. Why not try logging out, deleting the present saved password in Firefox, and start over making sure you are in the main page when you log in afresh. There's no reason why it shouldn't work.

Most strange ... I'm stumped. So that I can relay this in the best way to Frederik, may I ask what OS you are using, and which Browser as well?

Are you by any chance clearing out your cookies between visits (perhaps with a utility like Ccleaner, or equivalent)? If you are, and if you don't select the Talkclassical cookie to be preserved, then the information that you're 'logged in' will be lost each time you clear out cookies.

Another possibility is that the cookie is corrupted for some reason; in which case if you clear out all your cookies and start again, that ought to fix it.
