Greetings from Australia
Hiya! This is Ricky from Sydney. Been listening to classical since I was a kid cos I learned piano since age 7. Also play the double-bass. My collection is mainly Avant Garde (Henze, Peter Maxwell Davies, Lutoslawski etc), but my favourite classical pieces since around the age of 10 are the following:
Prokofiev: Symphony No.3
Shostakovich: Symphony No.10
Honegger: Symphony No.1 + 2
Brahams: Symphony No.1
Probably not their most famous works, but I have my own idea what their best works are, hehe.
Hope you guys have a great weekend!
Ricky

Welcome to the forum from another Sydneysider. I also like C20th music very much, but I also listen to music from other periods. Just for the variety. Hope you have a good time here...

That's makes three of us from Sydney! Welcome.
But I don't listen to 20th century music much, and member Andre hates my guts!
Have fun!

10th century or not that's OK. I listen to quite a lot of other stuff as well like jazz, blues.....
Why does Andre hate you?

Because I dislike Arnold Schoenberg's atonal music, and that genre in general, while member Andre loves Schoenberg! hehe ...

I don't "hate" Harpsichord Concerto, only disliked when he described Schoenberg's music as "shitty," although admittedly, s/he wrote that a while back. At least HC's critiques are a bit more reasoned now, which is better than just being 100% negative...

Haha Schoenberg does take a bit of getting used to, I myself am a big fan of his protege Alban Berg. Love his violin concerto and Lulu Suite. The fact that he wrote the violin concerto for a little girl that passed away just made it so poignant.
Conor I love your avatar! I have a copy of this artwork in my office
P.S. I'm trying to clear out some CDs as my beloved pet dog was attacked by a tick and unfortunately had to be put down after a few nights in the expensive ICU. Take a look at the link below you might find something that you like!
