I may be mistaken, but I seem to remember you having an interest in the Rilling Bach complete cantatas?
Just wanted to let you know jpc has it on sale for a great price. About 50 bucks. In case you'd want to know.

Thanks for the welcome message. I'm looking forward to learning more here. Btw, is that Ligeti in the picture? I really like him. Especially his works in the 1960s like Apparitions and Requiem.

The only work I haven't heard on your list of favorites is the Requiem but this will change soon. :)

Well starthrower if you've been noticing on the listening and purchasing threads that I've been coming around to Schnittke quite a bit as of late. I've really been digging his "Symphony No. 3" and the "Viola Concerto." I have many recordings of his music on the BIS label on the way so I'm anxious to give them a listen as they arrive. What are some of your favorite works by Schnittke?

Yes, I own that Rozhdestvensky recording of Schnittke's Symphony No. 8 and the Concerto Grosso No. 6. I'm still unsure how I feel about later Schnittke. One work I do enjoy a lot is Peer Gynt. Are you familiar with this work? There's only one recording of it unfortunately.

I would say that a lot of the music I heard from Schnittke seems to be of the product of a scatter-brain. ;) But seriously, I just think there's a lack of cohesion in his music and I don't find many of the ideas memorable. I do remember the jazz section from Symphony No. 1. Who could forget that? But, in general, I find the music just doesn't speak to me emotionally.

Ah, yes forgot to mention Ligeti! I do like his music a lot. I can't get into Schnittke. Henze is on my list of composers to explore. Love Poulenc, especially his concerti and chamber works. Berg is a favorite and is definitely on my list.

LOL!! I prefer the word "seasoned"! :) Next to classical jazz is my other passion. Btw...did you see my post after the my response to your Flora Purim? You really should check out that album. It's on spotify and is simply an amazing album. It's not a jazz album. I don't know how to categorize it except to say it has classical and jazz influences with South American flavor. The leader Christina Pulhar has specialized in early music and is a harpist.
