Dear Ukko, thanks for joining Book Chat. I really hope you will post something about American writers that you like, as I am woefully ignorant, and I always love your dry & witty posts. :tiphat:
    Best wishes,

Dear Ukko, I've just tried to send you a letter about our friend who is ill but I can't because your private message box is full, apparently. I will try again later. Hope you're having a nice weekend. Best wishes, Mollie
PS - sent it again, & this time no problems. Gremlins about, obviously.

Awwww, Mr. Hill, your picture is so pretty. Your motorcycle is just about eccentric as me, it's heartwarming. I'm sure you're also eccentric sometimes as well. What are your favorite eras, do tell! I still don't know?!

There's no telling what you may find as you're digging in the dirt. You need to use your bare hands, as well, to give it that personal touch.

This is kind of like chopping wood, as labor goes, yes?

    Hoeing
    by John Updike

I sometimes fear the younger generation will be deprived
    of the pleasures of hoeing;
    there is no knowing
how many souls have been formed by this simple exercise.

The dry earth like a great scab breaks, revealing
    moist-dark loam--
    the pea-root's home,
    a fertile wound perpetually healing.

How neatly the green weeds go under!
The blade chops the earth new.
    Ignorant the wise boy who
has never performed this simple, stupid, and useful wonder.
