well i basically agree. i don't have a problem with people like seiglindes, or couchie, or anyone else i've had a bit of vigorous debate with on this forum, having an alternate view. even the opposite view. as long as they don't try to stifle debate or take the high moral ground (stuff like that) they can say what they want. opinions aren't facts, thoughts are'nt either. we can draw different conclusions from all these historical facts.

if you're interested, a book i read decades ago was by edward said his 'orientalism' that was one of the first texts to question eurocentric ideologies. i don't agree with everything he says, nor with all aspects of his politics, but its a seminal text on these issues. its principal focus is the west's dealings with the middle east thru the centuries (said is palestinian) but what he says can apply generally (eg. to africa or other post colonial places).

That's good to hear. I'll give just about anything a chance, myself, even if I don't really enjoy it. It always surprises me how visceral some people's negative reactions to things are. This is on another topic, but you were asking about Asian lieder a while back, and I found out that Yasushi Akutagawa wrote a number of songs for voice and piano. Unfortunately, there don't seem to be any recordings that I could find. Nothing on Amazon.co.jp. His opera, L'Orphee de Hiroshima, has a recording, though.

Great to hear. Keep me posted. If I may ask, have you had primarily negative experiences with Mahler's symphonic works?

I know it's being shown at ACMI (the Australian Centre for the Moving Image) in Melbourne. I have been absolutely itching to see that film for ages. I am also looking forward to the next two by. Miyazaki and Takahata.

I saw that for the first time three days ago! On boxing day I rushed out to the shops with a heap of money and bought as many Ghibli movies as I could get my hands on. :D
Arrietty has a great ending, one of the best in any film from Studio Ghibli.

Hermann Prey's with Haitink and the Concertgebow is a good choice for baritone, Janet Baker's with Bernstein is a quite convincing mezzo version, although the poems are written from a male perspective.

Hey man, yeah that open mike was a pretty interesting ordeal. My friend was pretty drunk on scotch and sprite and I told him to just start out with a poppy guitar riff and then let it dilapidate into chaos. He made up that name for the project like 30 seconds before we played. I kinda half expected to get kicked off stage to be honest. The only other people that played were a rapper (who really just rapped along with an mp3 of an already existing rap song) and an older man with an acoustic guitar who I missed but we jammed with afterwards.

    Hi Cnote,

I think it's the latter and I'm slightly mad but at least I'm in good company. :) I'm just waiting on my husband re-sizing the photographs, they won't upload to TC because of the size. They should hopefully be ready before the weeks end. Thank you for the kind wishes, hope all is well.

    Regards,
