I read the Wiki page. Very interesting about his passion for authenticity in the role. It has been a long time since watching it, so perhaps I'll give it another look and see if my impressions from that time still hold. Thanks for the reference.

    Thanks for your response.

No wonder! My message was well over 1000 characters. Well, I repeated some of the minor points in a post to that thread today. The rest I'll get to a bit later. My wife is quite satisfied with the Jeremy Brett series, although between us, she is more about actors and acting than Sherlockian.

    Hi Kieran,

Thanks for your message and kind words about my posts. Proud to be your "friend."

When I tried to reply, it turned into a long one, but when I hit the Post Message, the whole thing disappeared! Very discouraging :( . I'll try to recreate it, but out of time tonight.

For the immediate; the Jeremy Brett version had good atmosphere, but the character had been revised to show, I suppose, a vulnerable side. I'm sure the producers thought the modification would help sell the character to a modern audience, and possibly it did, but not to me. The Conan Doyle Holmes was pure intellect, really a 2 dimensional person (well, maybe 2-1/2), possibly on the autistic spectrum, although that would not have been a 19th century notion. Brett did a good job. However, in my view, he wasn't Sherlock, but an update for a television audience.

I'll try to recreate my "essay" tomorrow.

    Thanks again,

    Z

    Hello Kieran,

Happy to see a Mozartforum fan here, I rarely posted but, I remember your interesting posts, looking to learn a lot here at Talkclassical, I left you a pm asking a question, looking forward to reading your post here, do you know of any Mozart biographies that cover Mozart's life that's readable?

    Thank You

    Dear Kieran,
Just a note to say that Schigolch has now posted his presentation on Luigi Rossi on Baroque Exchange. These Chats are coming thick & fast! It would be so nice if you could read and respond over the next week or two, so that it can truly be a Baroque *Exchange*!
    Best wishes for the weekend,
    Mollie

Hey Kieran. How are you doing? :)

I have been listening to The Marriage Of Figaro and I absolutely love it! I can't believe anybody could have written such a long work which is so consistently great and inventive. So, I wanted to ask you - what other operas by Mozart do you like? I would prefer opera buffa - there is nothing like comic Mozart in all of music! :tiphat:

Great and beautiful!!! A bit skinny for my taste but...;) Both her an Jelena were in crisis for years now they are lifting themselves up...Everything is in psyche...Some also in muscles, Nole was far weaker player when he was all skin and bone now he is perfect...

And a great cover too...I respect the both deeply and always support ''let the best man win''...Novak had rises and falls mostly on his psychological (st)ability but now he is rock solid and has a great old school couch Boris B hope he will end up in a tennis stardom again!
