That's a fascinating old sound that kind-of rolls back the years!
I have many Schumann cds that I play repeatedly and enjoy very much...one is of the Piano Quartet and Quintet by The Beaux Arts. I particularly love the opening passage of the first movement of the Quartet...that really puts me in a Schumannesque frame of mind as soon as I hear it. And with The Quintet...well, I just sing-along with that from beginning to end. I have the Symphonies by Sawallisch and Muti and they bring a deal of pleasure as do the cd's made by Pollini of the Sonata Opus 11 and the Davidsbundlertanze...And then of course, there's the songs....!
    Might see you around, then!
    Hope your cat is OK!

So nice to see that you have returned, Klavierspieler...after your period of absence. I hope you can find some time to reveal (via the Current Listening thread perhaps) the Schumann recordings that bring you particular pleasure..and then vicariously, via this website as t'were... to pass-on that pleasure to your fellow members of the Schumann Lovers Group.

I've seen that you've taken in good humor my poll. Of course, it's not my intention to force you to anything. You can use the avatar you want, but I really love that cat picture. I also believe that it does better suit the style of your comments. :D

Just a reminder, the jabberwocky competition on youngcomposers.com is due soon. The other two entrants have submitted their compositions already. Good luck!

Don't be sorry :p Like or dislike whatever you want :) Probably just not for you.

Regardless, as per your request I will give you a few recommendations off the top of my head - although I must say that for the most part his best stuff is of a style you wouldn't like. You've probably heard most of these, too.

Années de pèlerinage. Troisième année ( I suspect you've heard these, but they are very neglected compared to the other two years so you may not have...The three Villa d'este pieces are the highlight).
Consolations (Again, you've probably heard them. All six can be found from the link).
    Hungarian Rhapsody No. 5.
    Romance.
    Paysage.

Hmm, i'm not entirely sure. I'm not entirely sure what 'like me' entails. How would you describe your tastes?

Well hate is a strong word :p But listing him in the thread of composers you don't like, and most overrated composers (which I now realise is odd seeing as Liszt on average was ranked 24th on this site, while your rankings for him average at 17.5 :D But of course, there are obvious explanations for that). Out of curiosity, what works by him do you like? And what don't you like?

Heh I guess I should also make a confession....I only have around 5 Liszt CD's (and only around 30 CD's in general). I think, especially with solo piano works youtube is more than adequate, although I do want to start building a CD collection.

I didn't even need to ask you that. Richter played someone? Oh, well - there's where to look :p I've heard some of his Schumann playing and it was very good, although I preferred Brendel in the Fantasy. I'll look into getting some Richter/Schumann CD's.

Okay, will do at some point.

    Good day Resident Schumann Fanatic.

I must say I am shocked. I was just reading through the Top 25 composers thread, to see what the members on this forums respective tastes were, so i'd know who i'm 'dealing' with more often. I came across your list from August the 13th, 2011. My mind was actually blown that the Resident Liszt Hater included him on his list, at 21. What happened to you, man. I am disappointed.

:D Just kidding, of course. How are you today? I must admit I don't have much of a Schumann collection (in fact I don't have one at all). Most of my Schumann listening (a lot recently especially) has been on youtube. What discs would you recommend to start a collection?

    Thanks!

EDIT: Reading more of that thread I have come across another of your posts, on October 24. This time Liszt was at 14! Some sort of explanation is required.

Hmm, didn't take me long to become tired of lists.

I will lament with you over the appalling taste of the other participants on the Beethoven front though :)
