How is it you are wasting your time here again? It's the same old discussions and opinions. Not much of worth past the occasional shirime post. Violadude barely posts any more and so many others are gone.

Napier, where I live, is a good place for tourism. It's got all sorts of lovely places to visit, and is apparently the "Art Deco Capital of the World". In the middle of the North Island, there is Taupo, which is good if you like lakes and whatnot, and close to Taupo is Rotorua, which has many geysers and boiling mud pools and geothermal things. At the southernmost tip of the North Island is Wellington, which, being the capital city, has the government building, the National Library and other things like that.
South Island: I believe that whale-watching is a popular tourist activity in Kaikoura; I've never been there myself. Further south are Christchurch, the third-largest city, and Queenstown, which has lots of nice scenery and is popular for skiing - though it'll be summer by the time you're there, so I'm not sure if that still happens. Then there's Fiordland, which obviously has lots of fjords.
    Hope that helps.

Yes Alex, all is forgiven. I also apologize for expressing so much negativity towards women in general.

I just needed a little break from both the real life and online social scene. Somehow, without realizing it, a lot of tension and negativity was building up. I will write a little update in the "What happens in your life?" thread later today.

In the mean time, I've really started to get into Stockhausen. I feel like I now intuitively grasp his music. He is the deepest and most powerful composer there is. :)

That's hardcore... I haven't even taken a QFT class yet (maybe this coming fall)! But if the algebraic approach does have applications for QFT in curved spacetime, that's pretty cool.

I'm interested in experimental condensed matter, and if all goes well I'll be doing that as my phd program next year. As far as what specifically, either quantum gases, topological insulators, high Tc superconductors whether cuprate or iron, heterostrctures and FQHE, or quantum computing, whether it be superconducting squids or spin based or something else. As you can see, anything is possible, there's too much to know, and I don't know any of it! But eventually I will hehe.

Hehe physics for life. I'm a senior undergrad at Caltech. Are you a grad student or postdoc? I think I read in one of your posts that you do high energy?

As for the Casimir effect, it will be a long way for the tiny negative pressure between two conducting plates to open up a worhmhole haha.

The last movement is the only movement that guitarists seem to really like of that sonata ;)
I wish I could play the whole sonata! I'll work towards it one day.....currently I can play the first six bars or something really slowly. My guitar teacher recorded it.

It's a pissin' match. In most things I'm quite the logical chap. When it comes to art and "spirituality," I'm certainly obscure. I understand what you say and where you're coming from. But when it comes to these two topics I really like to push into abstract and seemingly 'illogical' territory.

And you'll find I don't hold grudges. I generally enjoy your post. It's a sharp contrast to my open-ended take on these topics. But don't mistake this play as a sign of a dull intellect. My reasoning is quite sharp when it's ignited. Understanding between us isn't so difficult.

    Thank you, Aleazk!

Yes, there have definitely been some...er...interesting opinions being tossed around here on TC lately. The more I learn about music, the more confident I feel correcting some of those interesting thoughts. I've enjoyed reading some of your confrontations as well haha.

I'm glad you enjoyed the string quartet. Hopefully it will be even better when I revise it a bit. I'm sure you could tell it was a little bit fractured in its current form and could be a little more coherent.

I think I still need to listen to your jazz band piece. I should get on that now!

    Best,
    Rory
