    Hi,
What did you think of Boulez's Mahler 1? I haven't actually heard that recording yet myself; I like some of Boulez's Mahler very well, other works less well. I'd be interested to hear your take.

    Caro DiesIraeVIX,
    Have a good day.

Like it, love some of it, generally the later the better. My first discovery was the eighth symphony under Furtwangler. It doesn't get any better than that. I rarely put Bruckner on because he's long, requires close attention, and doesn't always repay the heavy time investment, especially if I'm not in the proper serious mood. Here's a post I did on him last April under the "Bruckner" thread.

Ciao DIVIX, I am not sure but if I remember well, once you mentioned about downloading from Pristine Classical. Was that you? I would like to sample them, but I'm a bit skeptical on the quality and the fidelity of the original recordings ("ambient stereo", XR-remastering and so on).
Moreover, their 16bit/24bit flac files are quite expensive... What's your experience? Do you have any recommendations?
    Grazie mille!

Ciao, oggi è un gran giorno se non sbaglio :). La quinta di Beethoven con la Houston Symphony e Orozco-Estrada.
    Enjoy!

The size of the picture is determined by TC, which states that it must be 100x100 or 25KB, whichever is smaller. The image is actually 300x300 and 30.9KB, but it loaded, so the site must have compacted it :( Yes, I like the picture, too! I don't know where I found it, but I watched wrestling since I was little, so I immediately saw the charm of the image :D I don't know what Marvel/Street Fighter is--I presume it is a video game? No, I have never been into them. I find them very tedious. I bought a joystick about ten years ago, thinking that it might help, but it has gotten very dusty :D

Yeah, I rarely listen to either any more either, though Tool will always get the occasional play as they were my favorite band from musical genesis to ~17. I'm only two years in here, but I'll warn you: extreme love of modernism appears to be a year 2 symptom ;)

Do you mind if I ask how old you be? I know you're from Houston and like Tool and NIN and whatnot and are relatively new to classical, so I feel like you're my brother in arms :)

Yo DiesIrae, if you're ever in the mood for more Schoenberg you should check out his string quartets (all four of them!), variations for orchestra, and violin concerto. I have a feeling you'll really like these :)

Have you heard the story behind Schoenberg's String Trio? It's pretty interesting in itself; the composer had recently suffered a heart attack and claimed that the near death experience was reflected in the content of the work. He was only to live another five years.

Glad to hear you love Mahler. Sometimes all it takes is to just try and listen. I'm sure you'll love discovering the rest of his works.
