Default USA/UK cd and dvd players..HELP!!!!!!

Better late than never perhaps but Ihave only just discovered on Youtube the DVD of Olga Kern winning the 11th van Cliburn Piano Competition (joint 1st) in 2001. Some genius made and marketed a DVD of her astonishing winning performance of the Rachmaninov
3rd Piano Cto.under the name of "The Cliburn: Playing on the Edge". I was delighted to
discover this so checked on Amazon re price, availability, etc, etc. Imagine my utter dismay to find that the form in which it was solely available cannot be played uponU.K.
or any European DVD players thus I cannot have a copy. To say I am desolate over this
is not an exageration. I have yet to hear a better performance of the piece than Ms.Kern's
and as I am in my 70's you may be sure I have heard quite a few! Yes, I am quite sure
that many will hold differing opinions over this rendition to mine - that is to be expected and is surely healthy for our shared passion of music. I have few, if any, skills of my own and a technophile is the very least of 'em so I beg someone to please come forward and
either bring joy by advising where I can buy a version playable here in the UK or plunge
me into the depths of despair by confirming that it cannot be. For any that are fond of
Rachmaninov and his 3rd piano concerto but may not know of Ms.Kern (surely not?)
simply tap int Youtube and add Olga Kern. Easy on he eye she is an attractive blonde
lady with an awsome command of her chosen instrument. For the cogniscenti out there
this may not suit as thay only have 2 of the 3 movements on this DVD. Just watch her
staggering performance of the 3rd and final part - I have now seen it dozens of times
(earphones on a lap-top is NOT the best way but I have no choice) and the little lady in the red dress draws tears from this wizened old fool. Any help or whatever that may be
forthcoming may be positive of being received with my gratitude. Many thanks, Ian Watson.

Hi Ian - if you are sure that your player is not pre-configured to play DVDs from all regions then might it be a crumb of comfort that a decent all-region player doesn't cost a lot of money these days? A lot of sport DVDs I wanted were region 1 so a couple of years ago I bought a new Philips multi-region player for less than £50 - they may well be even cheaper now.

    Default Rachmaninoff/DVD players

Very many thanks for that! It had not occurred to me that our player could have been already rigged to play all regions. My daughter who is for me at least the font of all
matters elec/tech is away at present but I shall get her to check for me. Thanks again
as you may well have sorted it for me! My kindest regards Ian Watson.

Just one more thing - do you still possess the player's manual? If you look through it and see any specific reference to '0' (the zero may well be depicted in a globe surrounded by a square) then hopefully it's already pre-set for all regions. Assuming you live in Europe the only prob you'll have is if the factory pre-set is for region 2 only (there is a cheat facility in some cases where a code number can be entered during the set-up in order to default to a specific region but you need to know someone 'in the know' to implement this plus the code probably differs between makes). All I can say is I hope you have luck one way or the other.
