Maybe a new thread is in order for performers dying on the job. Meanwhile, back to Martha. Here is an historic aria that has a couple in the audience practically weeping for joy. It is fun to watch their and others' reactions to this aria.
Must watch this one on You Tube.

I am very excited because the postal tracking says the Martha CD set I ordered Monday is out for delivery today. It will be as good as the set I have with Lucia Popp and Siegfried Jerusalem:

Here is a good one that is on CD but only as highlights.

I have been listening to all my Martha recordings over and over for the past week and came to the conclusion that the very best recording in the original German language is this one from 1977:

A very close second is this one from 1969:

Followed more distantly (because of sound quality), but a very good performance too, is this one from 1944. I am not sure which one I have as it came in a box set of five operas, but from sound clips it seems similar to this one which is supposed to be remastered and has pretty decent sound:

I listened to the sung-in-Italian Martha (1953) last week and was bothered because it did not sound right because I was used to the German. But I am listening again tonight and it is actually pretty good, but for me will never replace the German. Actually the Italian one is Marta:

This is awesome. If only the whole video were available.

But it has the great Tagliavini in it, that's a bonus

Yes, we must take all things into consideration, especially on this much-neglected-by-the-recording-industry opera.

There is the Victoria de los Angeles sung-in-English Martha from the MET on Cd,
but here is a different Martha sung-in-English:
"All of Italian opera can be heard in [Bellini's] "Ah! non creda [mirarti]."
--Renata Scotto in "Scotto, More Than a DIva."

I assume you mean Martha and not The Great Caruso which is available. Lanza is just immense.

Yes, I am looking for great Martha recordings and I think I just got a real winner, perhaps second only to the one with Lucia Popp. I am on my second listen to this and it is great:
