Actually I meant to say Annie that I was surprised at how much I enjoyed Anna Nicole. It fair romped along and Eva-Maria was pretty good in the title role.

PS - that smiley is priceless. You are the queen of smileys.

A very good opera day for me, today.
I took a day off from work in celebration of my new audio equipment (Yamaha receiver, Onkyo speakers).
I saw Partenope - mixed bag; but then, I also saw two of the best operas/productions I've seen in a while - Busoni's Doktor Faust, and Martín y Soler's Il Burbero di Buon Cuore. Both have entered the select circle of my very favorite opera DVDs/blu-rays.

That's dedication Alma. I feel triumphant if I manage a whole opera in one day.

Has anyone here seen the SF Ring? I live really close by and have been debating to whether to see it for awhile now. The previews and reviews are stellar. The only drawback is that I don't have the time to see the entire cycle - thus I can only buy tickets for a single opera, probably Walkure or Gotterdammerung. But if I skip out on it, I can save my money for the Don Giovanni and/or Carmen that are coming later in the fall, which I'm also very eager to see.

Air, this is technically not an Opera on DVD and blu-ray question, so you'll probably collect more answers if you post it on the Opera forum rather than on this sub-forum.

Yay, I was able to bring down my UWP to 39; first time in months that it is below 40.

Yay, my Opolais Rusalka has arrived. Of course this makes my UWP hit again the 40 number. Maybe I should watch it right away to keep it at 39. I may get a stalemate like this. Every time I buy a new one, I watch it or I watch one from the pile.

OK folks, I hereby make a promise to myself, and I do it publicly to see if I can better fulfill it (it would be a bit more shameful and guilt-provoking if I failed to uphold it).

I *will* get my unwatched pile down to zero. It's at 36 now, the lowest number in months! Starting this Friday I will grant myself a 10-day staycation, and while I have other projects around the house, I intend to seriously attack the UWP. While 10 days won't be sufficient to watch 36 operas, I'm sure I'll be able to cut down significantly on the size of the pile, making it more manageable. Once I see the light at the end of the tunnel, I trust that I'll be able to continue to chomp it down until it's done.

I am *firmly* resolved to NOT buy ANY opera, no matter how big the buzz about it, until I get the UWP down to zero. I mean, of course, if Anna Netrebko releases a Salome I'll buy it, but other than for this extreme case, I *will* take care of this problem.

I'm planning to just place operas on the Amazon.com wish list for future consideration, until my UWP is zero.

    Signed, Almaviva.

I am so moved and touched to know that my dear friend Nat trusts my resolve and willpower so much that she is predicting that in ten days my UWP will reach zero. Oh wait, this is what you meant, right? No?

This just in! Anna Netrebko will appear in a new DVD release of Anna Nicole, in a production originally deemed too audaciously boobtacular for commercial distribution!

Of course, *someone* won't be making any new purchases, will he?
