Hello TalkClassical
Hello to all members of TalkClassical. I have been a fan of classical music for a long time. I am a Bruckner and Mahler fan first, but I also like Shostakovitch, Orff, Britten, Gershwhin, Stravinsky, Liszt and Wagner.
I am a 49 year old British man who works on transport. I like to talk about many different topics on-line, sometimes serious and other times humorous.

Hi Explorer-8, interesting that you include Gershwin, I enjoy his music as well, do you think he belongs with the Classical composers? Are you by any chance a Jazz fan?

Gershwin
Thanks, Andante. I have a very narrow taste in pure jazz (some Miles Davis; John Coltrane and Stan Tracey - their darker moments). I'd like to try out Sun Ra's music. I wonder if some of that might suit my tastes.
I go more for the combination of other styles with jazz such as some of the music of Weather Report; Mahavishnu Orchestra; Soft Machine; Henry Cow; Magma; Univers Zero; Art Zoyd; King Crimson; and Gong.
For me, there is a real shortage of music that combines jazz and classical especially with any real intensity. Not all of Gershwin's music is as intense as his Piano Concerto, but there is still so much to enjoy in his works.
I can hear slight Gershwin influences in Kodaly's Hary Janos suite, or is that just my imagination. I don't have any Copland because his music is too gentle for me.

Sorry for the delay I have been motoring around. Mentioned Gershwin, as a lot of his melodies were used in jazz and have become standards. I prefer to keep my jazz and classical separate, must admit not too keen on some of today’s jazz, but I may be in a time lock, lol
