I'm happy with the JDS Atom + HD600 combo, seems like a great setup for the money. I don't need an external DAC as most of my headphone listening is on a MacBook Pro that has a high quality DAC.

I am curious about those small tube amps like the Little Dot Mk3, as I'd like to know what the 600s sound like a little softer and warmer. I love the clarity but I feel that it makes them fatiguing over long listening sessions.

I think I'm getting iFi nano black label for HD600s. I seriously considered buying the Dragonfly but I found a brand-new iFi for under 200€ and I don't have to order it.

Superb amps for the money. I have the MkII and MKIII Little Dots. I can thoroughly recommend both with HD650's or any other HPs if you are looking to tone down the tops and warm up/fatten the bottom end. Though in the case of 650's these are pretty warm in the first place. I find tube amps work best on bright HPs e.g. Beyer DT 7/8/900s.

So, I tried my iFi for the first time and it's really wonderful! iFi nano BL is supposed to have a rather natural sound that I really like.

Probably it's not enough. Don't upgrade to the HA-501. But I really like my HA-501. The build quality is very high, sound is good enough. I have connected my HA-501 with a Yamaha CD-S2000 cd player with very short Vovox XLR cables and HD-600s. I think this is a killer combo, with a fistful of Bach and Mendelssohn and Dowland and Bismillah Khan and Kishori Amonkar.

I just bought a new pair of headphones to use at the office, Audio Technica A990Z. A real bargain at 70% off on sale.

Enjoying them so far. They have a bigger soundstage than I'm used to with closed-back headphones and very good clarity.

    Default Grado headphones mod

    Anyone using Grado headphones?
They have their fans and haters and the in-betweens. I'm a fan, have been for decades, and own four different models (along with AKG, Sennheiser, beyer, Shure, etc) ... but Grado's are DIFFERENT.
As far as the non-esoteric "SR" series (aka "Prestige Series"), a neat little tweak, completely reversible, is to tape the outer edge with ONE layer of electrical tape. If you use black tape and apply carefully and symmetrically, you won't really affect the Grado's already somewhat ugly aesthetic. Regular elec. tape is just the right width to completely wrap that outer edge.
I've tried a number of tweaks and aftermarket cushions (pads) and the tape mod, IMO, improves sonics w/o subtracting Grado's house sound.

I have a pair of Grado SR60i. I've had them since about 2009, replacing a pair of Beyerdynamic DT75. I really liked them - but not the easiest to wear outdoors walking (the dog), and they warm your ears too much after a while. I then bought a pair of AKG451, very portable, but they were not a patch on the Grados, not least because of microphonics. So, I stuck with the Grado indoors, and used the Apple earbuds that came with my iPod Touch. Inferior sound, but easier to walk in!

I now use headphones less outdoors, and since I just got a pair of Sony WF-1000XM3 wireless, I use the Grados much less often - they take turns with the Beyer when I'm listening on my PC or TV.

I'm not sure why I'd want to stick tape on them. I had a quick look at the article you linked to. I don't think my ears are up to hearing the kinds of differences observed on those wiggly lines!

I love the "forward" Grado sound, the sweet top and the quick bottom. The problem I have with Grado is the construction, the bits that hold the two cans feel flimsy, but the biggest problem is the foam ear pads. Here's a photo of what happened to mine -

I've been listening exclusively on loudspeakers for a few years already, so they have been sitting in the box all along, and I was shocked to find out the condition of these pads.

Has Anyone had any experience with 3rd party replacement ear pads? Do they fit well? Comfortable? I see a few on Amazon US. They seem to be much cheaper than the original. Since these ear pads are pretty much "consumables", I wouldn't want to pay the hefty price for the original.

How do you like these for music?

I have Apple AirPods (the standard version) and use them mostly for listening to spoken word podcasts, as they're pretty hopeless for music, although I sometimes use them for listening in bed at night.
