Did you buy this directly from Decca or from a retailer? Because if from a retailer, that is the one you may wish to seek a refund from.

Mary - I'm going to ROH soon so I'll have a look at the one in the shop. If it's 'region free' shall I get you a copy?

Annie, bless you, but I think I'm going to pursue this with Decca and/or Amazon. There has been a major boo-boo by the recording label, and both they and the seller need to be made aware of it (and send me the second disk!).

Okey doke but I'm going to have a look at it anyway, out of curiosity. Will let you know!

If one searches for this video on Amazon.com, one now finds the following message posted:

    Item Under Review
While this item is available from other marketplace sellers on this page, it is not currently offered by Amazon.com because customers have told us there may be something wrong with our inventory of the item, the way we are shipping it, or the way it's described here. (Thanks for the tip!)
We're working to fix the problem as quickly as possible.

So at least something is being done by the seller, and we'll see what happens from here.

Interesting. Amazon or Decca seem to be making a mess of this. On Amazon.de in the description it says two discs, then further down it says one disc.

Well, i am currently reading 2 books on Wagner. The first is a few years old and it is excellent. Its called "the nibelung's ring" and it is by Peter Bassett. He tells the story of each part of the ring and gives his own personal thoughts/insight into what is going on and why. I am finding it an excellent companion.

Along with this i am back watching the new Met Lepage Ring....Das Rheingold last night. You know, i never had the good fortune to watch it live at the Met (living in Asia its a bit far!) but i enjoy his production. OK, i would prefer a better entrance to Valhalla than being pulled up by a rope but apart from that i can't complain about it. Lepage's set is great.

The other book i have just purchased is Wagner, the sourcerer of Bayreuth by Barry Millington. Haven't looked at it much but it is very nice presented and paper is very good art quality -as there are lots of drawings.

    Onwards with Die Walkure now....

I'm intrigued about Handel opera...the less performed, and one not (Giulio Cesare).

    Whet my appetite, you experts!

Just watched the Madama Butterfly DVD from the Macerata Festival in Italy. It has Raffaella Angeletti as a rather mature Butterfly with what seems to me to be a hefty voice. Massimo Pisapia is a Pinkerton looking like he is waiting for a bus he is so uninvolved. I was not keen on the guy playing Goro or Sharpless.

Pier Luigi Pizzi is the director and he seems to have done away with his ramps and splashes of red cloth in favour of what looks at times to be a farm! Dreary lighting and sad costumes -looks like Japan in recession! I did not like the mics used in the performance- sure, it boosts the voices but also makes it lack energy and passion.

I love Madame Butterfly -owning over 25 cd versions alone. This one is quite a sorry DVD - i wonder why they every decided to film it! Thank goodness i got it very cheap otherwise i would not have been happy. Watch it once and then shelve it!

I shall listen to this on my Walkman on my way to work.

Today is my first day back after the New Year break & I need something rousing for marching music.

Nothing like Ruggero in martial mode to get you ready to face the fray!
