My Maria Callas Tosca just arrived today from Europe. It was purchased used on Amazon back in February and since I had a copy from the library (that inspired me to buy my own copy) I simply ripped the tracks at that time and since forgot all about the order. I even went in and gave feedback at some point, then today when it arrived, I thought, what the... I already have this. Did they forget and send me a second copy. It looked so familiar because of having signed out the Library copy back in February. Ha, what a joke on me. So not a recent purchase, but just arrived. :)

Why that opera? Just curious. :tiphat:

Is it normal for a CD of an opera to have a 200-page booklet attached containing a footnoted libretto in four languages, and an essay about the writing of the opera (also footnoted), and have ZERO information on the singers, conductor and orchestra, save for their names and photographs?

Asking for a friend.

These days, it's rare to have a complete libretto in any language accompanying an opera CD set. Most of those skinny booklets only include a synopsis and track listing (usually in a few languages), and perhaps an article or two about the opera itself. If you want a libretto, you may be referred to the label's web site. In addition to the cast listing, there may -- or may not -- be photos of the conductor, orchestra, and soloists.

What's Opera Doc? by Bugs Bunny...

[just kidding!]

Been listening to this: Wood Font Soil Metal Blade

This is literally the first time I have heard this epic work, other than the
mere snippets from Amadeus, the movie... so I have nothing to compare
it to. Found a used copy of it in near mint condition for $3.95 at a local CD
shop so I figured how can I go wrong?

Would love to know what people's favorite versions of this opera are. This
sounds pretty darn good to me but I am anything but an authority on the
subject.

There is a poll going on in the opera section and I am sure that Don Giovanni is in it.
I am also sure that Carlo Maria Giulini in going top the bill .:tiphat:

I think overall these Kubelik sets are money well spent. My love of Kubelik's Meistersinger is known on these pages. I think his Parsifal is the finest studio recording of this opera. I think the Lohengrin is the weakest of the three and does not hit the heights of Kempe but is still good compared to some other sets.

WOW
You won't be disappointed DA.
The Parsifal and Meister are super,
The Lohengrin has its moments, excellent singing, some questionable tempis.
But worth having.
Congrats!!!
