Itullian you are really wetting my appetite for the Kempe Ring, but I will wait for it go come out on iTunes.

Anyone got the new Janowski Siegfried or Gotterdammerung released in the last week? Stephen Gould is the Siegfried

It's excellent Yashin. Better than I expected.

Die Gezeichneten is a great opera. In fact, Schreker was almost as popular as Strauss at his time, but he gradually lost favour with the audience, and he was also attacked by the Nazi Party, because he was of Jewish origins. I would recommend it to all fans of German Romantic and Post-Romantic opera. There is a DVD in the market, if you prefer being exposed first to a visual as well as audio experience. There are some examples in youtube:

Der Schatzgraber is not such different from Die Gezeichneten, only a little bit more... expansive. The beautiful chords are now a trifle too self-conscious and sometimes it seems they are just festering notes. It's a nice experience, anyway, but in this case, to the best of my knowledge, there is no DVD available, so you need to stick to the CD. There is also part of the opera available on youtube:

About "Written on Skin", I think is a must for opera fans.

I was also nicely surprised by Schreker's Der Ferne Klang which is chock full of lovely moments and (although I love it dearly) not quite as long as Gezeichneten

Indeed. I watched a performance of Der Ferne Klang at Seville, some years ago. It's a very nice opera, (I love the second act, at the Venice's island) and can be a good introduction to Schreker, though the musical approach is a little bit more adventurous than in his later pieces.

There are a couple of CDs available, this is the "classic" recording by Gerd Albretch:

I have this one and I'm very happy with the quality - it seems to be a splice of a number of live performances
