My favorite version of " La traviata"
It's abosolutely in 1994 performed byAngela Gheorghiu,Frank Lopardo,Leo Nucci.
It touched me so much.I think Angela's singing is filled with power and emotion.and she is the most beautiful Violetta ever in my opinion.however I don't like the other role by her.

My favourite? I broke my LP and I didn't replace it. I HATE THIS OPERA, corny, cheesy, etc.

My favourite is Villazon/Netrebko from Salzburg...but it's also the first version I saw and the first opera DVD I ever bought, so I'm kind of sentimentally biased...

Is Gheorghiu really that good a Violetta? I can at least think of 10 Violettas that are better than her. On DVD the best La Traviata is probably still the Conlon one; cause Fleming pwns Gheorghiu and Netrebko both in looks and singing. On record my pick on the best La Traviata is the Ceccato one; no one I have heard comes remotely close to being as good as Sills in singing Violetta.

At the moment it's one recorded off the TV with Joseph Calleja, Renee Fleming & Thomas Hampson. It's absolutely my favourite (so far).

I only own the version by Kleiber and I think it is is pretty good!
Beverly Sills in my opinion is the best Violetta in terms of singing.
Anna Netrebko in my opinion is the best Violetta in terms of looks.

On DVD: Netrebko/Villazon. If anyone had described the production beforehand, I would had enormous difficulties to believe that it could work. But work it does and amazingly well! I liked Gheorgiou's Violetta as well, but poor Lopardo is just too rotund to be exactly convincing, though he sings well enough.
On CD (and on LP, originally): Cotrubas/Domingo. This was my first La Traviata, which may bias my judgment, but there is that inbuilt vulnerability in Cotrubas's voice, which is so touching, even if you didn't understand a word of what she is singing.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Gheorghiu/Vargas Blu-ray from La Scala 2007 yet. Priced at less than $10.-, it will be hard to get more bang for the buck.
(I can't compare this to other versions, but to me the performance seems marvelous.)
Not too many bucks, but not too many bangs either. You need to see some of the other versions.

GM I have both the low priced 2007 blu ray Traviata you mention and the earlier Gheorghiu/Lopardo Solti ROH Traviata, I like the Solti better overall, as mentioned earlier this Solti Traviata success really made Angela a big opera name......I think you will really like her earlier Violetta performance
My favoite currently is the blu ray Fleming/Villazon Traviata, has both visual splendor and top shelf singing/acting
For CD there are many many contenders, but I would not argue with Sills or Cotrubas as top contenders

Maybe I will eventually, but, as I said, for now I'm perfectly happy with the bang/buck maximizer. I also love the lavish staging. I'm an ultra-traditionalist, so for example your favorite would have to be dismissed based on the DVD cover alone (sorry!). Also, unlike many folks here, I'm not an expert on singing and if it sounds fine to my ungifted ear (which this one does), I'm happy. Put differently, I'll try to stay out of discussions on finer points of singing.
No no.........keep up your comments, our darling draculette needs her supporters to fend off these cruel blows inflicted on this forum ( I try to support Angela when warranted)
Many times someone with less pre-conceptions and bias can hear things fresh and make some very valid interesting observations.
