We must "wait" to see what Amazon sellers offer us......and not blindly pay the Amazon Prime listed $274.99

One seller I use often on Amazon is "import cds" and I see on their website the Callas boxset is $212.50 That is lowest price I have seen.......

I was thinking the same thing about the price.

I have used import as well. Good prices on select items, but no tracking
and not so good packing sometimes.
    That's a good price though.
We'll see what the other sellers offer too.

I couldn't find it on importcds

I don't think "import CDs" will use that $212 price on Amazon website......it will be higher

Yes, that's the way they operate.
It will be higher on Amazon.

Same old....same old. Any serious collector most likely has all this Callas gold. How much are you willing to spend on duplicate material?

I think most of us already have one (or more) complete Callas studio sets, the selling point here is the most comprehensive intensive effort to date to remaster these operas in superior sound quality.

It is like buying blu ray versions of your favorite movies or TV shows, yes they are "duplicates" but many will pay extra for better picture and sound quality

I bought 2 of the same Toscanini Beethoven Symphony cycle sets, from the late 1930's, two consecutive years. The first was a highly touted remastering, sound was okay for the time. Nothing special. The second was supposed to be "even better". I didn't notice any difference.

I sincerely hope that those of you who love Maria Callas find this new set an improvement over what was already out there.
I hope it can be auditioned before you spend the money.
Just don't expect miracles. There's a limit as to what can be done with older recordings.

    Good luck!!

There is some reason to be hopeful.......

Although most Callas recordings are older 1950s mono and stereo they are studio recordings done by top recording team of EMI, and Warner sound engineers today have full access to original master tapes......I think there is room for noticeable improvement in the right hands (or ears)

The results I have with my Pristine Classical XR remasters of EMI Callas recordings is very noticeable improvement, so I know it is possible (Warner should have turned the entire project over to Andrew Rose of Pristine, that guy is a miracle worker)

The excitement about this set is becoming infectious!

Reading upthread, I am confused about whether the new box will have different remasters or not to this box:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Maria-Callas...ria+callas+box

Do we know if the new release is just a repackaging, or will it sound either different or better?

    Thanks

These are completely new re-masters, going back to the original tapes and correcting mistakes made on past re-masters. More in this article here.

Having already heard excerpts from the set, I can attest to the fact that both voices and orchestra have a great deal more presence than in any past re-masters. I will be definitely getting this set.

More video from inside Abbey Road recording studio, listen to discussion about remaster process.........

If you have good computer sound system you can hear the added detail and hall ambience from sound samples played, the color and nuance captured in the ringing high note at 3:01 is absolutely thrilling, the somber melancholy of Casta Diva will break your heart......brava
