That link to Presto UK above indicates that in new remastered boxset not only do we get all EMI studio recordings plus the few earlier Cetra lablel recordings, also included 13 remastered recital CDs......so for many reasons even owners of previous boxsets will "have" to buy this as well

The extremely cheap membran label collection below mixes studio and key live recordings using very nice folded digipaks with unique photos on each........you need this as well only $67 at Amazon USA with prime shipping!

Yes, its supposed to be ALL the studio recordings.

I always wondered about the quality of that red box.

The June 18, 2014 article on the Presto Classical web site states: "If you want to hear these remasterings in their full glory - in full 24-bit/96kHz sound - you'll also be able to buy those here at Presto Classical too, as our high-resolution offer is now just days away from launch."

I can't find a corresponding product (i.e., 24-bit/96kHz format) for sale on the Presto web site. Amazon (USA) lists only the Audio CDs (i.e., Red Book). Can anyone shed any light on the high-res recordings? Will they be on Blu-ray audio disks?

I believe the cds are 24bit.

I'm not a recording engineer. With that said, my understanding is that traditional Audio CDs (i.e., meeting the Red Book standard) are 16bit/44.1 kHz. Therefore the 24bit/96kHz recordings that Preston says they will offer will have to be in a format other than CD, e.g., FLAC download (which I have experience using), or possibly Blu-ray audio disk (which I haven't used). They could also offer SACDs, which employ a fundamentally different encoding scheme (i.e., "single bit").

FYI, following is the answer that Presto provided today via email re “Callas Remastered”: “The 24/96 recordings are going to be made available as FLAC downloads alongside the formats we already offer; as for when they'll be available, we're looking to start this next week (but we can't make them all available in one go, so they will appear gradually to begin with - I'm not sure when this specific one will become available).”

It will be interesting to see pricing.

Please - can someone remind me when they have bought this set in the UK (In October?) - I have the feeling that this will comprise my Christmas present this year

£210.99! Hardly a snip, but it looks so enticing.

Maybe when it comes out the price will drop.
That usually happens when the other sellers get involved.

that's more than a pound a day I need to save up before Chistmas ..... actually, put that way, it isn't too expensive - I spend more than that on lukewarm coffee

How about buying it now, and supporting all of the people who had the good grace to put it out to begin with?

True indeed, though it always seems much easier to spend a couple of quid a day on coffee than to fork out £210 all in one go, even on something as desirable as this.

Many years ago (almost 30 years ago I think) I was a smoker getting through a couple of packs a day sometimes. That was quite a bit of money, but I don't remember suddenly feeling a lot better off when I stopped, well not in my pocket anyway.

    Itullian: Which are?...............
I don't know the 'whom' with specificity. But the fact that someone has to invest time and money in the re-engineeering, packaging, marketing, distribution, and logisticizing---- costs. . . 'mon-ey.'
