    Price, as determined by supply and demand, that is.

    If its too low, it causes an artificial scarcity; if its too high, the manufacturer gets artificial surplusses.

    The price has to at least meet marginal cost for an entrepreneur to take on the endeavor.

    No one's going to make a lot of cheap, wildly-selling widgets if it doesn't turn a profit; or at least cover their pre-existing production costs.
