Isn't it time to start a new forum category "Identifying music"? The current thread " Identifying music" at "Classical Music Discussion" has 894 posts.

When it's still a 106 posts off from a thousand?? I've seen forum threads which are half that many pages long.![]()

Want a piece of classical music identified? Post a link or upload a clip here. Someone might have an answer.

Hi kiwipolish,
What then, would you propose we do with the existing thread? We can't just scrap it and start over. If we remove the original, then accumulated post count totals for each contributing member are reduced, commensurate by how many posts they made, individually. Most members here would rather not see that happen, and I quite agree.
Additionally, some quests for "identification" are still unanswered for whatever reason. Eventually, maybe months or years down the road, someone might be able to identify a piece of music. Btw, these forum pages are searchable by any search engine even without having to login or register. By keeping the existing thread intact, we are promoting this forum community on the internet, generating more exposure and as such, more interest which leads to increased membership, which we would all like to see.
If one does a google search for "classical music forum", this forum is at the top of that list ... Talk Classical may well be the first place people look to for top grade information.
It is because of people like yourselves, and your great contributions to this forum community, that we are rated so highly. Believe me, Frederik Magle appreciates that more than you will ever know.![]()

Simply move it to the new subforum (with a 301 redirect for SEO), with a warning "Do not post questions here, only answers. For each question, start a new thread." It would also be useful to set some rules about posting; i.e. a thread cannot simply be titled "What is this?" but must have some clues like "Unidentified orchestral piece, 19th century?, 7 minutes".What then, would you propose we do with the existing thread?
I believe answers will be found faster if each question has its own thread.Additionally, some quests for "identification" are still unanswered for whatever reason.
Also, it would attract more users. I.e. at this stage, I do have questions, but I am reluctant about posting them in this thread where they may get lost.
Good ideas there, kiwipolish ...
It is not within my purview to change the forum and/or create new forum areas.
I have, however, sent on this request to Daniel and Frederik Magle today.
