Our high school Concert Choir was well known (in its day - 1960's) and respected for its perfect performances.

The director insisted on prompt memorization of the pieces and demanded that all eyes were on him during any performance. He was known for, when observing a choir member looking in another direction, of stopping the piece and asking that student to leave the choir riser/stage; even during a performance!

Needless to say that student surely learned their lesson the hard way. I was the piano accompanist for that choir.

It may seem rather inhumane in these days but in those years it was acceptable and produced the needed results.

I'm surprised regarding Shipway, who had several concerts with the Danish RSO, even a sort-of-late-premiere of Langgaard's 1st Symphony; I would have thought that his reputation was commonly known, and that the orchestra would then protest against engaging him. He did make very excessive cuts in the Langgaard work though.

There is no resident musical director I believe. It is of course made up of members of the Vienna State Opera band.

right, i believe that all members of VPO play with VSOO, but not all VSOO musicians are in the VPO.
