This annoying piece of whimsy is a very long way from being a favourite opera of mine, which is probably why I have no particular opinion on the subject of Bour versus Ansermet. (To take the most extreme example- it's not like the cats' duet is ever going to sound good, regardless of who 'sings' it.) I think I'm marginally fonder of the singers on the Ansermet performance- both recordings benefit from very good casts- so I will vote, with Pugg, for Ansermet.

These two vintage French recordings are available together on Cantus Classics' bargain priced double CD:

I don't have a CD of this opera, I've only seen this DVD with Simon Rattle which I liked very much and want to recommend.

Considering the average production staged these days, that might be one of the least humiliating things a singer has to dress up as.

I can only find one studio recording of that opera. Whilst there are two live recordings as well, is it really worth including an opera that only has one studio recording?

Pass... unfortunately, because I know (from the vocal score I studied) that it's such a great opera!

That must be one of Joan's earliest recordings? Not familiar with this opera so I have to pass but I've made a note.
