Exclamation The 2015 TC most recommended opera CD's and DVD thread...........

    It's that time again friends

When we all vote for our favorite opera CDs and DVDs to recommend them to other members.

I'll use the most recommended operas thread to list the operas, they were voted for based on popularity, and we'll have 48hrs to list our favorite before I move on to the next opera.

    Here we go....................
When all else fails, listen to Thick as a Brick.

I'm not sure that's quite true anymore. I don't expect many votes for my favourite (Karajan) but I do expect Keilberth will be high on many peoples's lists.

    Will be interesting to see.
I think Karajan's is amazing too, but we have one vote.

Having heard all the Rings live and commercial and being forced to take only one.............
Knappertsbusch Bayreuth 1956 - it has the same cast more or less as 1955 but it has the profundity missing in the Keilberth.
I can't think of one commercially recorded Ring that does not have serious casting flaws so I will take the 1956 Kna.
I can listen to that over and over again.

The latest remastering makes it sound like recorded yesterday.
And I have nothing against the Karajan, but had to choose one, simple as that .

Yes. Another vote for Solti/Culshaw for excellence in singing, conducting and engineering.

    Solti for me.

Whilst I do think that the '55 Keilberth is probably better, the audio in the Solti recording sounds so good!
    This space for rent.
