Default Poll about Your Next Classical Music Poll?

Unlike a lot of poll writers on TC, for me, the art of writing a poll doesn't come naturally to me.

Today I have writer's block and then after reflecting on Nabakov's Pale Fire I realized what my next poll about to be about. Why not have a poll about what the subject of the next classical music poll that hasn't been written about yet from my side?

This makes this poll similar to that of a Mobius strip. A poll about a non-existent or nascent poll would be the epitome of self-reference?

    Up to you guys.

If one has no pressing need to make a new poll then one probably shouldn't.

But if one must then certainly don't be so vulgar to put ones own name in it (eg: "Simon's Poll About..."), nor so vain as to make it sound as though one speaks for the community (eg: "Simon's Official TalkClassical..."), one should perhaps also ask oneself if this isn't also just another attemt to be noticed, and - perhaps most important of all - if one is really interested in the responses, or just glad to have another outlet for one's own voice.

One should perhaps also consider these matters if one is thinking of making a new thread (eg: "Simon's Random Thoughts About Happenings In Simon's World"), or if one couldn't simply use a pre-existing thread for more general, passing matters.

I really think Simon that as you are the true voice of reason on this forum that you should launch a poll (that is carefully worded and approved by certain forum elders) asking about the impact on contemporary art music/classical music composition in light of the Greek "No" vote, pointing out how music and politics are inseparable even though they shouldn't be as we all like a good tune, don't we, and how on earth can music be political when it's all about variations in frequency and duration, putting to one side conveniently how a good tune or appropriating a major composer can galvanize an entire nation to take up arms and I've completely forgoten what I wanted to say. But can you please do it anyway, just to please me?

There were several good first bits that you have totally missed which goes to show that you wish to hijack this forum for your own nefarious needs and I think I should be banned for saying so.

The best polls/threads are about one's listening experience, positive and negative ones. Both are all part of the reality of listening. Therefore I voted the first option. Looking forward to you telling us about what you think of Satie's Vex!

    *facepalm*

Personal experiences about listening to the 10 hour remix of Satie's Vexations
How can a poll be about the poll-maker's "personal experiences"?

Does one write out a list of options, post it, then consider ones own response in the light of how others vote on what they think ones reaction was??

Wouldn't two paragraphs on Current Listening cover it? Or on the Satie thread in the Composer Guestbook, if one is wanting some more extended back-and-forth?

A poll could perhaps ask what others think of it ...but notice that's not whats being suggested here.

So true. This particular proposed poll has "contrived" written all over it.

I chose the write-in option in order to point out that there was no "no poll" option. Note: the option should really say "No poll; go outside."

The first question you need to ask is, do you want your poll to produce information or invective? These seem to be the two main types of poll. That said, you could also create a poll where the invective is the information.

Oh, and pace SimonNZ, you should most certainly be so vulgar as to put your own name on the poll.

Fair enough, I guess. I hadn't thought of examples from other members, many if not most of which prove to be not so "its all about me" (ergo I'd rather you hadn't given the advice/encouragement of "you most certainly should" in this context...but, hey, that's just me)

    (a) anything with a LOL at the end probably shouldn't be taken as an ex cathedra pronouncement;

    (b) do you really think anything you or I say has any force of obligation on Albert?
