Default Do you like "atonal" and/or hip-hop (rap) thread?

Very simple. After seeing that we have a current atonal like/dislike thread, I decided that it would be interesting to conduct a new poll that looks at two pretty maligned forms of music... "atonal" and rap/hip-hop music.

I'm curious to see whether there is a crossover between people who like "atonal" and "rap" music. Are they the same people or not?

    So it's poll time now.

I like both, but I don't necessarily like them in "combo" as your first choice says. I picked that anyway. I'm guessing I'll be in the minority more for liking rap than liking atonal Classical.

No worries I am gathering statistics because I haven't had much of a clue what the Venn diagram would show here.

I love atonal rap! When Lil Wayne, or Nelly, or Pitbull lay into the sprechstimme while some DJ scratches samples of Schoenberg and Webern LPs on the turntable to set the beat ... ah! It's like ... like Mozart and Vivaldi all over again!

Just call me Serial Hip-Hop Guy!

Alongside Aton and Hiporap, Heavy Metal is the most disliked for me.

Rap is one of the few music genres where I like absolutely nothing that I have heard.

Looks like a good place to post this. What's the world's most popular music genre? Spotify has the answer.

And, as we all have learned from the Beethoven thread, popularity is a sign of... of something. I'm not sure what, yet. It seems to change meaning as the context changes.

At least ArtMusic has the decency to put "who cares?" as an option in his polls.

*Sigh*... There's no such thing as "amelodic vocals" or "rapping" as some like to call it. Even in "rapping" the pitch doesn't stay exactly the same all the time, so there's in fact some kind of melody, so this rapping vs. singing dichotomy is nonsensical.

I agree. Atonal is a redundant term for me regarding my listening preferences, even if I got a handle on it; rap ain't my thing but I'm not putting it in the trash. So, like you, I voted Xenakis.
