Default At last, Beethoven's Fifth (A la carte poll #55)

Part of a continuing series of polls, which simply asks:
Which of these works do you like?

My goal is to build a general picture of the musical interests on TC.

Please vote for *all* of the pieces you like.
Options are available for voters who don't know any of the works, and those who know some but don't like any of them. Even "I don't know any" is an interesting and welcome piece of information.

You can still vote in all the previous polls - please do! For the full list, see this blog entry.

Picked about half, my favourite is Shostakovich 10. The Barber Adagio for strings is overplayed, but great - even though I prefer the original version as part of the string quartet. Brahms and Schubert are two of my favourite composers, but these particular works so far did not impress me.

Hello Nereffid, happy to see your polls again.

I picked all of them except the Ockeghem. I don't think I have listened to that piece before.

Even if Adagio for Strings is overplayed, it's still profoundly moving every time I hear it. Now that's a masterpiece.
Hours of unrecorded, unpublished and unknown Beethoven works at The Unheard Beethoven

I like six of them, and Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 is my favorite.

Chose favourites on the list only. Some of them may represent a feeling of "emotional overload" at times, by a lot of repeated hearing during a short period - the Debussy rarely so.

Despite being done to death Beethoven's fifth remains one of the most astonishingly original works in the symphonic repertoire. Incredible!

    Favorite recordings:

    C Kleiber / VPO
    Karajan / BPO (1963 or 1977)

It's excellent, if you have any interest in pre-Baroque.

Forget the fate motif: with Beethoven 5, it is all about the slow movement and its gloriousness.

Well, I can't really agree, beautiful as the slow movement is. The motif itself is included in every movement, so it is literally all about the fate motif.

I too picked all of them except the Ockeghem. To be honest I'm not 100% certain I've heard the Biber either, but I probably have. I usually like Biber in either event.
