    Default Fidelio for Wind Ensemble

Properly this probably ought to be in the non vocal forum, but it is based on opera and I figure the opera forum viewers might be more knowledgeable on this topic. So I found a couple of single disk sets of parts from the Opera Fidelio played by wind ensemble:

    Version for Harmonie

    Musical Heritage Society

I am curious if there are other releases than these in wind ensemble or other instruments? I know, it's kind of the elevator music version of Fidelio.

Surely though, Liszt has not set Fidelio to piano, eh?

No, not Liszt, but it has been set for piano by Zemlinsky:

Four-Hand Piano Fidelio I like it quite a lot.

I know I have another arrangement of the Fidelio Harmoniemusik but I can't recall just now what the grouping is. I'll look tonight if I remember.

There is a great transcription for wind ensemble of Beethoven's Seventh that I think was authorized by Beethoven. I found the following You Tube samples:

Note: I could not find the third movement.

My CD is with the Ventes De Montréal on the Atma Classique Label (#2129)

Interesting. You get two discs so presumably the whole opera minus the recitatives, yet there is dialog in the Melodram & Duet "Wie kalt es ist... Nur hurtig fort. but I don't think piano works for me. The wind versions are closer to orchestral.

Ohh these are wonderful. One of my favorite things is instrumental arrangements of operatic vocal music (which is one reason I love Wagner, he does this so much within his operas). I linked to my Spotify Instrumental Opera playlist in another thread, which includes a variety of things along these lines (Le nozze for wind octet! Many arias for flute, oboe, and piano!), and now the arrangements of Fidelio mentioned above.

I also found a recent recording from the NHK Symphony Orchestra Wind Ensemble. This includes the wind ensemble version of Beethoven's 7th symphony (in G!) and also excerpts (totaling near 30 minutes) from Fidelio. (Spotify. Amazon).
