I read somewhere that people who confuse composers with different first names but the same last names tend to die slow and painful deaths. Not sure but it sounds serious. You guys better not stop reading at "Neuwirth".

I'm afraid of these I've only heard a Segerstam work.

The Symphony No. 734 I think it was, for slide whistle and orchestra.

The latest Segerstam symphony to be recorded, to my knowledge, is Symphony No. 181, but later ones have of course been performed

I really like York Holler. Vinko Globokar's music is OK but he's a VERY interesting character (just look him up - he also interviews very well). Dror Feirler is an interesting character too - I like this piece:

The only name I recall ever having come across is Leif Segerstam. I have not heard any music by any of these composers.

Sergerstram and Holler. This isn't the Reynolds with that short opera, is it?

I've heard of Globokar and only know Segerstam as a conductor.

    1. I do not like any of them.
    2. All of them are very late modernist.

I'd like to see your detailed thoughts on why you dislike each one. After all, surely you wouldn't make such a post without knowing their music.

As for #2, surely you read the thread title.

Yes, and it is wrong. These are late modern - none are contemporary.

    Segerstam, Globokar, Höller.

PS: I suppose all listed names have had some of their music recorded, or is that a criteria?

    Lars Ekström died last year.

I have heard Segerstam and Dror Feiler.

Dror Feiler composed the Incidental music to the infamous Carmen performance at the Backa Theater in Göteborg.

I've heard Nicola Sani's music and possibly Höller's (not so sure).

I've never heard a Sergerstram's symphony. His production makes me a bit scared...if you had to pick just one, which one would it be?

Re. Nicola Sani, I like his "Four Darks in Red" for string quartet & electronics, inspired by the Rothko's painting. It's a pity I listened to it for the first time when the String Quartet Project was already over, otherwise I'd have nominated it.
I also heard some pieces from his album "Raw" (Stradivarius) but I was less impressed. Maybe I should listen to it again.
