Just the three - Bedrossian and Mitterer are both interesting. Bedrossian seems to be on the rise and has written some impressive stuff

I've heard Aho live, actually - never thought I could say that about someone in this series.

Add one vote to Jan Welmers whom I accidentally missed. I've also heard Aho and Johnston which puts me roughly at my average for these polls (3/14).

We should not forget Frederik Magle as a contemporary composer. He has written works for orchestra, organ, piano and other instrumentation.

I have enjoyed the Magle organ improvisations I have heard. But no one is being excluded intentionally, if that is your concern. As I have said before, I did not choose the composers in these polls.

EDIT: I would legitimately like to see more commentary, whether on the music of any listed composer, the polling process, or perhaps suggestions for data workup (I intend to start tossing all these in a spreadsheet at some point, but I'm not sure I have as many analytical ideas as Nereffid).

If you're taking suggestions... you can consider including:

    Peter Boyer
    Derek Charke
    Chen Yi
    Carl Davis
    Donnacha Dennehy
    John Harbison
    Aaron Jay Kernis
    Peter Maxwell-Davies
    Paul Moravec
    Christopher Rouse
    Jeajoon Ryu
    Julia Wolfe

I'm sure you have lots of others and most of those already in there (if you didn't do them already), and I haven't heard some of these guys's music either!

The poll options are selected by random number generation.

I've heard Aho and Pateras only.
The former because of the many BIS recordings. I used to be fond of him, but his music has started leaving me a bit cold.
The latter because of the passionate "advocacy" by a (unfortunate) member of this forum. Interesting composer.

Actually, I have heard of more composers in that list (Kernis, Maxwell Davies, Moravec, and Rouse) than almost all the polls combined. In the actual poll, I only recognized one name (Aho).

Of the names listed in the polls, I have heard only one: Dalbavie. (Kernis has a CD in my pile of stuff waiting on a hearing). In part because I have conservative tastes, but also simply the lack of information. There are a few composers in my collection who could be listed but are not (Lindberg, Guerrero, for example).

Lindberg, Guerrero, Maxwell Davies, Saariaho, Gubaidulina, etc are all names that could make it a poll at any time, but have not been lucky enough to yet. I only have a list so long, so it will be inevitable, I hope.

Any recommendation on pieces by the listed composers? I would like to explore.
