Default Original Marcelloi Or Student Bach ....

.... more specifically, which do you prefer,

Marcello's heart felt oboe concerto in D minor

Played here on the Baroque oboe, a most beautiful sounding instrument that has vocal qualities closest to the human voice for its time

Or Johann Sebastian Bach studying the Italian three movement concerto forma by copying out the score for harpsichord BWV974

I like both but the Baroque Oboe is very hard to beat. Pure and simple.

Even a genius like Bach can be deeply inspired by a heart felt oboe concerto that has the right qualities.

I prefer the Bach because I think the harmonies are more interesting to hear. But I'm not sure you could tell from a harpsichord performance, least of all the one on that YouTube. There's a good recording by Gerhard Weinberger on a very nice organ tuned meantone - (Müller/Marienmünster)

As much as I love Bach, I have to admit I'm usually not as fond of his keyboard arrangements of the works he loved, as I am of the originals. I'm sure he wouldn't fault me as I couldn't compliment his taste more. So, to herr Sebastian And to the genial Marcello

I just think it's fascinating to think about why Bach chose those pieces that he did to study and to arrange.
